Question about Carrier XHB123D X/Y Series Heat/Cool Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Furnace I have carrier 8000. We were told the batteries were dead and that was what was causing the furnace to kick off and not run at night, When we get up its 63 degrees but set on 69. If you turn the thermostat off and then on again it will work ok for a few hours. then it happens all over again. you can start it manually but it won't come on by itself, then it runs for a few hours ok and repeats at night it goes off...We repalced the thermostat, but it still is the same.

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 furnace. it will not light.I tested the igniter on my upstairs furnace and it will glow and light that furnace. I can manualy light the furnace with a match. flame sensor...

If you're sure the igniter is good and the controller is sending voltage to gas valve to open, but not to the igniter then, yes, the controller is bad. The only way to know for sure is to remove the igniter's molded plug from the board and test voltage directly at the board. You should get about 100-120 vac to the igniter.

Flame sensor dirty

Sandpaper lightly scrubbed over the sensor tip to remove any contamination.

Sometimes cleaning is not enough and the sensor must be replaced.

I have a new home 1 yr and when the furnace kicks in, I am assuming the fan it makes a noise but as soon as the heat starts the noise is gone, could this be the furnace blower

Check by turning the unit off and turn the fan to on. Do you hear the noise now? The noise your hearing could be coming from your combustion fan assembly instead. Newer furnaces have a in-shot burner and are nosier than the old style of heater.

Sometimes this can be caused by a dusty control board.

Inspect flame sensor, (located in burner area, opposite side of hot surface ignitor). If the tip of sensor have a white carbon build up on it, it needs to be removed and cleaned, Good luck.

Carrier air conditioner cycles on and off

The compressor/condenser is being called all the time. The reason it goes off is because the evaporator (indoors) freezes up when the fan is told to turn off by the thermostat. This further cooling lowers the low side pressure below the low limit switch point turning off the compressor unit.
Solution: Make sure the thermostat is wired correctly. Green wire is usually the compressor wire but maybe not.
