There seems to be smoke coming from the inside of the dryer and it's hot inside, but the clothes aren't drying. Any clues?

Sounds like you have a restricted vent . check not only the hose but also the house venting. usually clogged at the screen or flapper outside. another ppular place for a buildup is the inlet under the lint screen. without proper airflow lint collects on element. take care of the quickly as it could lead to a fire.

My Maytag atlantis MDE7600Ayw takes nearly 3 hours to dry clothes. The back silver metal grill is very hot and it still tumbles, no weird sounds. Any suggestions?

sounds like your vent is clogged or there is lint clogged around the blower wheel. Make sure to check outside where it comes out and be sure all the exaust tubing is free of lint clogs.

The cycle runs but does not dry and seems wet inside the container...Suggestions?

You have an air flow problem. Lint has built up in either the dryer vent to the outside or in the actual dryer vent located in the dryer. If the clothes are hot but still damp then there is the problem. You may need to disconnect the dryer from the outside vent and clean that vent out. Also may need to remove the back of the dryer to clean any lint that may be in the area causing the problem

Good luck hope this helped you some

Replaced the electrical cord on maytag atlantis dryer < a year ago, but now it seems the hot connection is burning up.

BOTH HOT "L1" and "L2" connections or just one of them is burning up? if just one you could have a partially shorted heating element drawing excessive current

My lint trap has very little lint.

Older clothes do not produce as much lint as new ones. Also, if your dryer isn't getting as hot as it used to, then you won't get as much lint either. Does it seem to take a bit longer to dry your clothes? Also, check your dryer vent, if the airflow is reduced, the amount of lint that is expelled through the filter will deminish as well. You may have a build up of lint in the vent ducting to the outside that is restricting airflow.

Inside of my maytag atlantis electric dryer...top layer is erodin

I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THE FINISH COMING OF EXPOSING ANYTHING TOXIC. WHAT COULD HAPPEN IS THAT WITH TIME, THE DRUM MAY RUST AND TRANSFER IT ONTO THE CLOTHES. DEPENDING ON ITS CONDITION, IT SEEMS NEW ENOUGH TO WARRANT INSTALLING A NEW DRUM. I DONT KNOW IF A COATING OF PORCALINE SPRAY PAINT WOULD STAND UP TO THE CONDITIONS IN THE DRYER BUT IT MAY BE WORTH A SHOT AS I DONT KNOW OFF HAND WHAT A DRUM SELLS FOR.

While my dryer is running it makes intermittent squeaks.

most of the time your rollers and belt are fine 1st thing to check would be the idler pully which keeps the tension on the belt so the tub spins

I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
