Does the hp pavilion dv6000 have a sleep button ON KEYBOARD?

Sounds like your keyboard is sending the wrong signal (the one telling your PC to enter sleep mode) to your motherboard when you press space key, which (if true) would indicate it's faulty. It could also be you've contracted a virus and is playing a particularly nasty practical joke on you (let's hope that's all it does). Try connecting another keyboard to your PC and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then you'll need to clean your computer of any viruses. Try also disconnecting your mouse and see if that changes anything. If your keyboard comes with a shortcut utility software for it, run it and check there's no shortcut set on your keyboard's space bar. You've additionally specified you're not using wireless keyboard, but could you also please write what OS you're on?

Make sure the tabs of the shield are put back together correctly and not preventing the buttons from pushing down all the way.

I think its likely to be a hardware problem but check that your keyboard settings are correct for your country. Look in the control panel and then Keyboard settings.

If you want to check the drivers just type Device Manager in the start box. Once in Device Manager find your keyboard and click on the "+" sign, then right-click on your keyboard model. You should see update driver, also one of the tabs will tell if it is working properly and if not there is a Troubleshooting box.
