Question about Projection Televisions

6 Answers

Problem with turning the tv on.

When you turn the tv on by either remote or on the tv it blinks green for about a minute or so then goes off. On its own it starts blinking agan for another minute or so then goes off and stays off. You press the remote and the tv comes on.

Is there a fix for this?

If we live with it will it cause bigger problems?

The blinks are on the ctr panel.
After the first sequence of blinks on the ctr panel the same blinking on the ctr panel begins again without any intervention on my part. When the ctr panel finally stops blinking and goes of is when I can turn the tv on and get a picture.

Maklean, per your request my tv is a Mitsubishi Medallion 1080 60 inch rear projection

  • Sweetwood Feb 23, 2008

The other components on my tv are a surround sound and dvd as well as the cable box and they all seem to work properly.

I honestly do not know how to determine if my power is clean to the unit.

plug in a 100 watt bulb..and if it stays steady, then you have clean power..if it appears to pulse or vary more than usual(don't look at it more than 30 seconds at a time)

From what you are relating, your power supply is suspect..can you run the power from another outlet, say across the room, with a 20 foot or better extension cord?

Please give me mfg and model number for further information
(The bigger problem suposed to be continuous shut off)
You turn on your TV and 5-10 seconds later, the display is shaking or vibrating for a second or so. It used to only occur when first turned on, but now, the problem occurs 3 times in 30 seconds. Of course, many variations on this general theme are possible.
Some possibilities:

  1. External interference - did you change anything or move your A/V setup recently? Do you have a computer monitor nearby?
  2. Defective circuitry in TV - power supply regulation, deflection, or bad internal connections are possible.
  3. Defective video cable (unlikely) - wiggle the cables to be see if you can induce the problem.
  4. Loose trim magnets of other magnetic components on or near deflection yoke. This is somewhat rare but if the adhesive comes apart, the magnetic fields from the deflection current can cause the parts to vibrate which will result in a jitter or movement of the picture. There may even be audible crackling or snapping sounds associated with this vibration.
Note that many of the sources of electromagnetic interference that are problems with computer monitors like transformers and power lines will not cause noticeable shaking, wiggling, or jiggling on a TV because the power line and vertical scan are at almost exactly the same frequency and any such movement would be very slow.

Hi,

Here are few trouble shooting steps you can try:

ONE: Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.

TWO: The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.

There are several circuits in this model that could do this. the most common are the power supply and the convergence. The only solution will be to get it repaired.

Goodluck...

    Hi again,

I have already given you the 2 troubleshooting steps.

Hi,

Did you try disconnecting it from the power for a few hours? This should reset the TV.

TV won't power on

Sounds like the bulb is not firing. I have the 44 inch model. Like it too. It is normal for the power indicator to blink for a minute or two AFTER the set has been turned off from running. get a phillips or panasonic TY-LA1000 bulb or a P22H 120 watt one if you can remove the old one from the housing (not very hard to do).

My Mitsubishi Medallion tv stays on for about 10 minutes and then shuts down and won't turn back on until a period of time has passed. It is a rear projection tv about 9 years old. Can anyone help ex

When it shuts off and the green power light goes off, press both the menu and input buttons on the front of the set (not the remote) and hold both for about five seconds and release.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks and then 3 blinks and repeat it several times.

What is the error code?

THEN THE LIGHT TURNED OFF. thEN I TURNED ON WITH THE REMOTE AND THE YELLOW LIGHT TURNED ON AND A FEW SECONDS LATER CHANGED TO THE GREEN LIGHT AND THE TV TURNED ON. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, BETWEEN 10 AND 30 IT DID THE SAME THING. NOW IT IS OFF WITH A BLINKING RED LIGHT PERMANENTLY ON. TO TURN IT OFF I HAVE TO UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL. I turn the tv. on , the green light comes on then

When you turn it on and it shuts off---ON THE FRONT OF THE SET PRESS AND HOLD BOTH THE MENU AND INPUT(DEVICE) BUTTONS TOGETHER FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND RELEASE BOTH BUTTONS.

Power light should blink a two digit error code---for example: 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--This is the most common error code.

Let me know what error code you get and I will tell you what it means and if 2-2 what the problem is.

A green blinking light usually indicates an internal problem. The service person can use the pattern of the blinks to determine the problem.
