Hi,

in this case it's a failure of the printhead. Go to www.kodak.com/go/itg and choose All-in-one printer - Print quality. Follow the steps and if it not helps you can order a printhead for free.

Black Cartrige Missing

Did you use a brandname ink cartridge - or is it a knock-off brand? If it is a brand name - then the cartridge is most likely defective. If it is a knock-off brand - some printers do not recognize the electronic in the cartridge and therefore don't see it as one being installed.

.i used to have get good bright colored pix but

Try removing the print head again, removing the ink and re-cleaning the print head. Once it has been cleaned leave it to air dry for a few days before returning it to your printer and make sure the ink cartridges are fully clipped in. Let me know how you get on.

Its a brand new ink color cartrige and all colors print but the red.

Try this: Step-by-Step Solutions and Repair http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/repair/troubleshooting/troubleshooting.jhtml?pq-path=10355 - Maybe you need to clean the print head. Sometimes you have to clean it a few times to get it working correctly (which in my opinion is a waste of ink!) - Might be a bad print head, I have had to replace mine twice now. Just call Kodak, they will have you do some tests on your printer, and then if it's your print head they will send you a new one.

Kodak ESP 5 runs out of ink after about 40 pages of standard text black & white documents. Also the color ink level is dropping, but no color is being used (the printer is set for black & white...

As far as the quantity of black & white - to get more out of it - go to start menu.. Click on on settings,, then printers,, Right click on the ESP 5,, click on printing preferences,, then clcik on draft,, then click on (at the top) advanced,, click on black & white.. Then click on apply then ok..
Now - every time you print it will be in this mode.. If you want to print in color - you will have to choose that each time..
For you black & white docs - this will print faster & use allot less ink..
As far as your color issue & puddling - It could be the printer head.. If it is new enough - call Kodak & maybe get a replacement.. If to old - maybe keep the color cartrige out and caped with the plastic caps until you need to print color.. Snap it in & out as needed..
I hope this helped..

My Kodak 5300 won't print color

MAYBE YOU ADDED A BLACK INK CARTRIDGE RATHER THAN THE COLOR ONE ? OR MAYBE YOU HAVE THE COLOR CARTRIDGE PLUGGED INTO THE BLACK INK ONE ? DONT KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP BUT THOSE WOULD BE THE FIRST FEW THINGS I WOULD CHECK. I ALWAYS SEEM TO MISS THE OBVIOUS WHEN SOMETHING ISNT WORKING FOR ME

Dull color

I would say phone or email Kodak as you may have a faulty printhead. If Kodak sayes you have a bad head they will airmail you one overnight and throw in free black and color ink tanks all free of charge.
I have read that some how in making the printhead a run got too hot in process and thus a bad printhead.
Hope this helps
