My computer had a virus so i reinstalled windows vista. now my ethernet/ computer does not recognize my internet modem and when i try to install it from my verizon dsl disk it says my computer is not...

After you reinstall the Operating System, you need to reinstall the drivers for the adapter as well. They do not get reinstalled automatically. You may go your computer's manufacturer's site and download the drivers and install them.

Can't get online help please says unable to connect do i need anything special a chip or card to get on to wifi

Hello

The error message lets me believe you have a wireless card already. If you have the driver installation disk for this pc notebook try to reinstall them from the cd or dvd.

You do need a wireless ethernet card, if you want to run wireless. This is a small device that plugs into the side of your laptop when u use it.

Other wise there is a port for a ethernet cable in the back of the laptop for a ethernet wire, looks like a phone jack just a little bigger.

Reinstalled Windows XP no ethernet card

Hi,

It seems that after re-installing windows you have missed the Driver installation for your hardware. If you have a disk (which reads Drivers and Utilities) that came with your computer, You can insert it in your CD Driver and select the Driver for Network adapter. If you do not have a disc, you can always visit the Dell's support site i.e.:support.dell.com and Get the drivers suitable for your hardware by selecting the model or Entering the Service Tag of your Dell computer.

For your convenience I am providing below the link for Drivers for Dimension 4700 Desktop PC as you have mentioned.
Intel (R) PRO/100 Driver for Dimension 4700

Hope you find this information helpful.

I've replaced the hard drive & tried reinstalling XP. It said I need an ethernet adapter. The ethernet card is still in place. Is it not recognizing ethernet? What should I do?

You need to download the ethernet card driver from HP and install it. This is impossible unless you also have wire less working. If not, you'll need to go to another computer and download the driver to a disk or USB flash drive. Install that and it should work. Get the driver from www.hp.com. It will guide you to the correct driver if you have all the model number info. Good Luck.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.

One of two 3com pci gigabit ethernet cards is not working

If you have the driver disk that was distributed with the card , try reinstalling the card drivers first.

If the card is faulty, buy a new pci ethernet adapter and replace it, inserting the ethernet adapter into the pci slot.

After installing install drivers for the new card with the disk that will come with the card.

Ensure that you are logged in as administrator when you reinstall the drivers.
