You need a software made for DVDs which you can use for the CDs to.
To read DVDs (and CDs) use Power DVD.
To burn DVDs (and CDs) use Nero DVD. You may purchase them almost to any PC shop.
This is just an example. You may find some free software on the Internet but if you are not used with this I suggest to ask a friend to help you or to buy a software as I have already said.
I have had this problem before with the exact same model.. I had been on the phone with technicians and they guided me through a series of troubleshooters with which none of them worked.. Unfortunatly the only way I managed to get it running again was to restore my laptop to factory
Any laptop cdrom, cd/rw, dvdrom, dvd/rw, or cd/rw-dvd combo will fit in you laptop. All you have to do is remove the mounting hardware from the old one, and place on the new one. They are pretty easy to remove from the laptop, as there is only one screw from the bottom that holds them in.

Hi
How old is this laptop? If it is brand new, then you
should be able to send it back to acer. Its the problem with drive or mainboard not with the drivers.
Thanks
