DVD burns ''successfully''...but actually burns nothing!

Hi, I've been trying to burn data onto some DVDs, but my burner completely fails to burn any data onto them.

In detail:
I'm using Cyberlink DVD suite and have been for about six months. It worked before perfectly fine. But lately, every time I try to burn something (whether data, an image, or a movie), it goes through the entire process and says -it completed successfully!- But then when I try to run the DVD, it says it's blank and asks me if I want to burn anything onto it.

I've probably gone through 30 different DVDs like this.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?

    @proartya8765
I tried what you suggested but I didn't find any disc image. I'm certain that the program is attempting to burn to my disc drive (D:).

I should add that the drive does spin up and go through the same actions that it did when it was working. I've burned disc images before, so I know it's not that.

I should also add that it does the same thing when using DVDFab.

Does anyone have any other idea on what might be the problem?

Well it turns out it is my CD/DVD burner itself.

    I remembered I had a burner on Windows7 (I'm dual-booting XP and Win7) so I tried it out there.
    Same result.

Do you have any ideas on fixing the burner?
Luckily my PC is still under warranty, so if there's no way to fix it, I can still send it back for a replacement.

What comes to mind is that you are burning to an image file and not your actual burner. Make a small data DVD and name it something obvious such as aaaa. After completion of the disk, do a search for the file and see if it is in actuality on the computer. If it is stored as an image file, you need to select the recorder type to your actual burner.

I think first we should outrule that the burner itself may be at fault. Download a trial version of Nero and burn a disk from it and see if it works. If it does, you may need to reinstall Cyberlink. Also, do you have your program licensed to more than one Pc?

Burning computer files on a DVD can be a great way to backup your information.
Most one-sided writeable and rewritable DVD discs can store nearly five gigabytes of information, while two-sided writeable and rewriteable DVD discs can hold over eight gigabytes.

There are many programs available for purchase that you can use to burn a DVD.
For the sake of this tutorial, we will be using one of the most popular CD and DVD burning utilities Nero Burning ROM.

Read on to learn how to burn a DVD.
Insert your writeable or rewriteable DVD into your writeable DVD drive.

Click on your start menu and select "All Programs," "Nero" and "Nero StartSmart."
Locate the pull-down menu at the top of the window that shows "CD" displayed.

Click on the arrow to view the rest of the menu and select DVD.
Find the icons under the pull-down menu you just used.

Click on the "Data" icon. Then click on "Make Data DVD."
Click on the "Add" button when the Nero Express window opens.

Find the files on your hard drive that you would like to burn to the DVD and select them.
When you're done selecting files, click "Finished."

Select "Next" to get to the Final Burn Settings screen. If you can select the speed at which to write your disc, select the 8x option.

Click "Burn" and wait as your files are burned to the DVD. Click "OK" once the window pops up telling you the burn process was completed successfully. http://www.nero.com/enu/index.html

I had burned the data in double layer DVD in Nero, after successfully completing the burning, when i try to open it is showing the space is Zero, please suggest me in retreiving the data which was burnt.

have a good look at the disk you burnt make sure the data has been burnt to the disk
sometimes nero will say that the burn process completed successfully but when you check the disk itself there is nothing on it
righ click on the disk select properties you will be able to see how much free space you have
you would have been asked if you wanted to save the data in a certain folder after the burn
hope this helps

Can't burn pass over 78 min on my burner

CDs can only store 800 Mb, which is exactly 78 minutes. If you need to burn more data than that onto a disk then you will need to burn DVDs with a DVD burner.
Please rate, Thanks!

Hi : I have a HP Pavillion a1218n (P4) computer that is about three years old. I would like to burn data to 8.5 GB Dual Layer - Single sided DVD storage media disks. My CD/DVD burner : burns, flip, burn...

Greetings,
Your dvd drive is not capable of burning a dual layer disc. You need to have a burner that is capable of sending the laser through to the second layer of the disc. That said you can get a DL burner for around 30 dollars. Click HERE to see one from Newegg.com.
I am not sure what you mean by 'burns, flip, burn dvds.' but if you make another comment I will respond.
Take Care,

I have problem with my AVERATEC COmputer

This is a common issue with NEC DVD burners, assuming that your NEC DVD burner cannot read and write DVDs anymore. I had a similar issue with my NEC DVD burner, which couldn't read and write CDs, but DVDs successfully. This is usually due to wear and tear of constant usage of the drive itself and sometimes mechanisms inside the DVD burner cease to work. While Windows Troubleshooting, uninstalling and re-installing the drive are suggestable, I am afraid the only option is a complete DVD burner replacement.
