When you change the wireless security on the router , it is recommended tht you will change the wireless network name also ( SSID ). Because when you try to connect to the wireless network on the computer, your computer will try to connect to the same old network name with the old wireless security settings. To avoid this you can change the wireless network name. WPA is supported by windows XP SP2 and above operating system.
If the operating system on your computer WINDOWS XP SP1 and if you are trying to connect using the windows utility then you would not be able to connect to the network .

How to i lock belkin router

Your computer has to be plugged into it (the router) for you to access those settings. You can access your router my typing this in your web browser address bar: http://196.168.2.1
From here navigate to the wireless settings and change it to WPA or WEP whatever you prefer. I prefer WEP b/c some of my older toys do not support WPA.

[email protected] forgotten my wep key and i need to find so how do i find it ?

Use an Ethernet cable between a LAN port on the router and the network-port on your computer.
Start Internet Explorer.
Access the "built-in" web-server inside the router.
Use the web-interface to set an SSID, the encryption-level (use 'WPA' instead of 'WEP'), and the password/passphrase.

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

I do not know my WPA network key>>>>how do I find out what it is?

You need to login into your router and check the wireless security settings. You probably have a WEP key setup.
you'll need it's ip address. refer to your manual. if you dont have that, go to the manufacuters website and read it there.

People can pull up in parking lot at my office and access the internet. how do i change this

Setup a WEP or WPA key on your router. Log into your router through a web browser. Usually by going to http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1
Enable either WEP or WPA and type in a key. Now when anyone connects to that router they will be prompted for the password (key) that you setup.

I have a belkin 54g. have had numrous problems with setting up the wireless function on the 1st and 2nd attempt. 3rd time lucky i manged to get wireless. Although now my wireless name is "belkin54g" and...

Open a browser page and log into the setup page @ 192.168.2.1,
click on SSID on the left column under Wireless,. It will probably ask you for a password if you had put one in. If not leave it clear and click "submit".
Then you can change the SSID (router name" to what you want it to be.
Then click on security, choose the type on encryption you want ie: WEP. WPA. Then put in the key you want to use to secure the router. Make sure you click apply after each change.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
