i've plugged my old sega genesis in. I can see a genesis logo rolling down the screen over and over, but no reaction when I plug in the game. It looks like the old tvs when there was a horizontal hold control to fix the rolling screen. but none of my games seem to start up. Any ideas?

for years now I've had to replace and wiggle cartridges into my sega megadrive before i get more than a blank screen and I thought either the pins have been corroding or their resistance is weakened. I think now that it's so ridiculous maybe angelitoserr's solution may be better than digging in and trying to bend pins back!

The contacts are old and you have to get the cartride to stay as close to the back so that its able to read the connection. this is very usual for the sega genesis system. So basically get like a 3" by 3" piece of paper and fold it enogh so that you can place it in front of the cartridge between it and the wall of the slot at the front next to where the cover art is at. if it still doesn't work let me know.

When I try to hook my Sega Genesis up to my TV, why does nothing happen?

you should have a red light and if its on it should be working. I would just go on Amazon and buy a AV connector for the system, no need to use RF like its 1989 :)

My sega genesis won't work - it was working fine

You screwed it up by plugging it into the 64. It is too old to handle that kind of stuff. I reccomend going and getting youself a Xbox 360 slim. They are much more efficient.

Sega mega drive with av cable

if your screen is black and you unplug the cable from the megadrive , does the screen go blue ? if so the machine is sending out an a/v signal to the tv and your problem lies with the game cartridge contacts being dirty or the contacts in the slot on the console being dirty , try cleaning the contact strip with some electrical contact cleaner on a cotton bud or small paint brush , hope this helps ,its saved loads of my games

Take the game out and put it back in SEVERAL times.. try blowing the cartrage or the reader...there may be dust..also make sure there is nothing on top of the sega or touching the cartrage...make sure the sega isnt moving and is on the floor or on a shelf

No idea why it's not working.

Well the RF Adaptors are not that great for the sega genny they seem to fail more times then not and if been sitting rolled up in a ball I would have to run a conclusion that the RF adaptor is pooched.

Another idea would pulling the top of the genny shell off and looking at where the RF jack is on the mainboard and looking to see if its burnt in any spots this could be the issue as well.

alot of people would still say its a cleaning issue either the game or the system needs cleaning but if you have done that already have you tryed using rubbing alcohal on a q-tip and run it along the carts contacts?

I ushally have a modified genesis laying around with A/V cables to be used instead of the RF cables that is another method you could try to if you into soldering at all or feel safe doing it. let me tell you besides fixing the controller port issue on a dreamcast the genesis AV mod is the easyest out there to do if you need or would like more info on this as well let me know and I will help you out

Also what model genny do you have model 1, 2 or 3?

dont forget to rate this solution thanks eh!
