Question about Acer Aspire 9500 Notebook

1 Answer

Numeric pad stop responding with numerals, off arrows and PgDn, PguUp OK

With the NumLock ON, the figures would not work. With NumLock OFF the keys are working fine.
Checked the empowering technology, checked WinXP, checked Registry (all settings OK) .
It just found it out one day. Is it possible that I triggered a hot key - working with insufficient light - not being aware of it?

How do I turn on numlock (to use an external usb number pad) on my Lenovo S405?

Did the external keyboard come with instructions to install drivers? Some keyboards will work without them, but others need additional drivers.

Numeric pad not working

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

hope this helps

What is nulock key?

I'm guessing you mean the "Numlock" key. It's located in the upper left corner of your numbers pad on the right of your keyboard and when it's on, it locks your numeric keypad into "Numbers Only" mode. Otherwise those keys will become disabled or become the alternate keys listed underneath the numbers (ie; up/down arrows, home, end, etc.). There is a setting in your BIOS (system setup at boot) to always have the Numlock key set to "ON" when your PC boots up.
