This is happening with my Kenmore Cold Spot too. It's the vertical frame between the freezer and fridge. It's very hot to the touch. It's has been intermittant over the past 24 hours. The coils were very dirty. Have cleaned the coils but it is still getting hot.

Kenmore Model 106.5666 outside frame between doors very hot.

  • ericswife Apr 28, 2008

I have this same issue. We moved last weekend and have had to disconect the water & ice make now the panel that is vertical between the freezer & refrigerator is very hot. It almost burns you & the rubber seal on the doors that touch the panel to create a seal is getting hot. I am afraid it will cause a fire. Any suggestions? We have not done anything other then stare at each other and swear :-)

The top & sides of freezer outer housing getting quiet hot,but only near the door,ps-have the red light alert & rest seems ok,so going to try the defrost stuff.

If you remove the rear panel inside the freezer and examine the evaporator while running you will most times see a few rows of the evaporator with clear ice and the rest will be sweating water droplets. That is what a leak in the Freon will cause and look like. When the door frame gets hot it is sometimes caused by a defective condenser fan or blocked air flow and also reduce cooling. Warm is normal around door frame because you have hot gas flowing there to reduce sweating around doors. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Door gasket hot admiral as22n8d

This is normal for a door of a frige to be hot this is nothing to be alarmed about as long as the frige is operating in normal temperatures inside this is nothing to be alarmed about. But it may mean it is time to pull it away from the wall remove the lower front and rear panels and give it a good cleaning.i think you may find it a bit dirty under there. My Kemore fridge is driping water in side under the top shelf!

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

The door posts of my fridge freezers gets very hot. so the door seals become hot the only way it stops is if i shut the doors hard. why is this happening, it did it not long after i got the thing but now...

This is pretty normal unless you are having problems below the refrigerator fan. Good air flow equals more efficient. What you feel is call a yoder loop and that is hot Freon coming from compressor and circulating around doors to prevent moisture. If it becomes hotter and temperatures begin to increase inside freezer and fresh food compartments is really when you should be concerned. If the pipes were not there you would beging to see moisture form around door seals and rust also. At this point I believe your refrigerator is OK. Just watch for changes in temperatures inside combined with the heat around door frame. Other model refrigerators use electric heat strips to do the same thing and they can be switched off at a switch called energy saver. Your model does not have that and hot days the hotter it seems. Let me know if you have a safe temperature of 38 degrees inside fresh food compartment and if that changes we may need to clean dust and check condenser fan motor. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Side by side won't dispense ice.

Take the ice container that has the auger inside it and press the door switch in while you press the dispenser. If the auger motor in the back works empty the ice container and see if there may be frozen ice preventing it from turning. If yes then defrost and dry the container and replace. If this does not solve the problem get me your model number for example 213.256489 for Sears and I will help you track the problem down. Sea Breeze

GC5SHEXNQ02 Whirlpool 2door ref - Panel gets hot

I am not going to say the problem is normal. Normal operation those strips are placed behind the metal and inside the walls around the door seals to prevent moisture or sweating around the doors. They are usually noticed to become hot when there is a change in the control boards operation. Some brands have the hot gas from the condenser circulating around the doors. If your model has an economy switch, switch it on. I would look for any abnormal operation of the refrigerator like compressor or condenser fan stopping or ice buildup or abnormal temperatures in the fresh food compartment. If this continues I would unplug the refrigerator and open the control panel inside the fresh food section and examine both sides of the control board for signs of heat or burn marks on both sides. May not be anything to be concerned about also because this may be the first time you noticed this. But it should not be too hot to touch. Sea Breeze

Area around freezer door is very hot to the touch. ice maker works, but after awhile the ice will melt. freezer is freezing.

HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem.
First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel?
Are the fans and the compressor running?
Please let me know so I can assist you through this.

Inside the door panel

If you mean the area where the gasket is...yes.  This is a mullion heater designed to prevent freezing the gasket to the box.  It should be slightly warm.  Some units have the option of turning thi feature off.  Check your manual.
