Problem for Nintendo Wii Console

Wii won't read our discs

By Pup123 on Feb 17, 2008

I got my Wii on the release date. It worked for a long time. Eventually, it started messing up on reading the discs from the Wii menu. I would retry 2 or 3 more tries and it would still work. However, today, I found that I was completely unable to play game discs no matter how many times I tried. All other functions of the Wii work, I think.

-   got mine Nov 2006...same problem. I asked to have them mail me a new one as is listed below but they say this is not an option. I'm sending mine in today. No hopes of getting it back before SuperSmashBrothers Brawl...-   leagan

-   We got our Wii a little over a year ago close to the release date. Now it will not read any disks. Have made numerous attempts on different disks.-   kermitK

-   Wii was bought 8/15/07.

Worked fine for 4 months. Past 2 months disc drive has been buzzing. Froze a few times with disc read error, then it started getting more frequent. Now I can't even play any discs.

Every other feature works perfectly. The buzzing stops once you remove the game.

If the standard things to try don't work cleaning the disk, resetting the wii. Call the tech support number, either they will offer to send you a prepaid return label for returning the console free. Or they will ask for a credit card number first and then send you out a new wii (in 3-4 days) and then you will have 21 days to send back your old one. They will charge you $5 for shipping and will need your credit card information to ensure that you do send the malfuctioning unit back.
Don't forget to backup your saved games on a SD card and your mii's (up to 10) on each remote.

There is a tech support number listed here, I'd recommend giving them a call:

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
