Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

Does it need regular cleaning?

My camera has been to the beach 4 times in the last year. The pictures are great and the camera is acting fine. I wasn't sure if sand could get in or if the suntan lotion could cause any problems. I've only had the camera a year and I don't want the sand especially causing any problems. Do I need to be regularly cleaning it? Thank you!!

Hi,
'
Sand generally has no effect on the electronic side of the camera, however it will definitely can cause problems with the mechanical aspect of the camera such as the zoom lens. this can be removed with a can of compressed air.

Suntan lotion likewise should not be any problem except for smudges on the housing/casing and especially bad for the lens. Additionally, the lotion would help the sand adhere to crevices and nooks of the camera. Wiping should get you just fine.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

No, just be extra careful at the beach, and never lay it on a sandy beach blanket. Sand likes to cling to the outer surface of the case and the lens barrel by static attraction. Before closing the lens at the beach, always try to remember to take a quick look around the lens barrel to see if any sand grains are clinging. If so, try to blow it off (dont use your sandy fingers to remove sand).

I brought my camera to the beach for the first time last weekend and now my zoom doesn't properly work.. i dont think this happens to everyones camera but to avoid the high price i will probably have to pay, i would suggest taking a disposable camera to the beach next time.
Hope this helps you :)

2 of my 4 night owl cameras are blurry and do not have a clear picture

My guess... Daytime is fine... night time is the problem...??

So without anymore system details I'm assuming your CLEAR cameras are in a protected location... from minor fog to a wee bit of moisture in the air which will reflect (glare) back into your UNCLEAR camera's picture.

Although you CANNOT SEE the infrared light... the camera sees it much the same as having your HIGH-BEAM headlights GLARE in the fog.

To prove it you need only change your clear cameras with your
UNCLEAR.

Additionally you will find spiders think these lights are a great place to put up their webs...

My solution was to get INDEPENDENT (IR) LIGHT sources and to disable the lights inside the camera.

Ultimately I replaced the cameras with the HD/PTZ cameras that work in low light and infrared.

or

You could just put up BRIGHT motion lights... and clean the spider webs off your cameras... (I did it for years!)

My camera doesn't shoot anymore.

photo's on the beach, camera obstructed? Could it be you got sand in your camera? Didyou change your lens while on (or near to) the beach? Sand in your shutter can obstruct the shutter in that case the camera has to be cleanded i don't know what the costs are for a cleaning of the body.

When I turn the camera on the zoom lens goes in and out three times and then the message says to turn the camera off and then on again. I do this and it does the same thing. I was taking pictures and it...

It is a lens issue, will need to go in for servicing. Possible reasons are knock or grit/sand in lens unit. If you have had it to the beach on a windy day try holding it over a piece of white paper with lens down about a foot away from the paper, give it a few taps on the bottom and see if sand/grit comes out. I fixed these camera's for 4 years and 90 percent of the problems were droppage/ sand related. SORRY.

You probably got some condensation on the lens from going in and outside. You should be able to go to a Wolf Camera or similar store and have it cleaned.
