Enabling Edge on Unlocked iPhone

On an unlocked iphone for the T-mobile carrier you need to add the full internet package to use the internet.

The apn is internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com if you have VPN internet.

Wap.voicestream.com may work, but it is not for sure, and might not give you the full internet. Only wap pages which are different than html.

To add this you go to settings>general settings>network>cellular data network or edge and then put the apn in the apn field. Make sure data roaming is turned on, and 3g is turned off.

Do not put in a user name and password, and go back to the main screen. Make sure your wifi is turned all the way off, not just disconnected.

Try to browse. If this fails you may need to reset the network settings. To do this, go to settings>general settings>reset>reset network settings. DO NOT reset anything else or it may re-lock your phone. Then when the phone resets go back and input the apn again, and turn off wifi.

Hi there Vegas Diamond (and others who are facing the same problems). I had posted the same query (amar65gupta) an hour ago. Then my curiousity got the better of me and I started exploring the "Edge" problem. And i fiund the solution (atleast it works in my case).

Please go to the EDGE settings page (Settings>General>Network>EDGE settings). It asks for the following information:
APN:
Username:
Password:

My service provider does not require Username and Password and I had to only key in the APN (in my case it is: airtelgprs.com. My service provider, in India, is Airtel).

After one has filled in the required information then switch off the iphone, remove the SIM and then reinsert the SIM and put the phone on. Try it. it might work on your phones as well. it does now on mine. And I am enjoying my iPhone to its full. When the EDGE is activated the "E' on the top left hand corner will 'glow' blue while it is white/grey when the EDGE is not activated.

p.s: Is it normal that iTunes can be accessed only through Wi-Fi!! Wonder why not through EDGE also)

i also have a unlocked iphone...iwireless is my carrier...how can i get edge to work!!!!!!!??

im in india and using idea as my service provider for phone service. i have the edge "E" but unable to connect to the internet. if someone might be able to help me please do so it will be appreciated. thank you.

i have t-mobile and just got these settings directly from tier 4 support

for t-mobile go to settings-general-edge and use wap.voicestream.com in the ADP setting. it worked for me. no user or password is required.

go 2 installer and in stall a program called (ANYSIM) this wil lwt u use any sim 4 any network!

Go in edge settings

APN: internet.com
use: wapuser1
password: wap

Not letting you access youtube, or not letting you go online via safari? The youtube issue is a separate issue, but if you really can't get online because the edge network is unavailable, I would try installing the "Boss Prefs" app located in "Installer.app". Once you install Boss Prefs, click on it, and toggle the "Edge" service on and off. Once it comes back on, it might ask you to select your network, ATT, TM, etc.

OKAY!! If you want to use edge on your unlocked i phone do this: first off, go to settings. Turn OFF wifi (when at home simply turn it back on). Then go back to settings, go to general, hit cellular data network, hit APN. Enter into the APN slot (dont worry about user name and password). Type in internet2.voicestream.com . If you cant find APN (i did this), you most likely downloaded a Cydia app that switched things around. If so, restore. follow his instructions explicitly.

Go back to your home screen. Thats it. When wifi is off, you will now run off of the edge network. I personaly subscribe to the smartphone plan so i have unlimited usage and downloads.

if its a 3g, turn off 3g, then under cellular data put in APN internet2.voicestream.com then turn data roaming on, and also turn WI-FI off. it should work

My iphone shows a grey lock in the uppermost bar. Does that mean some features are still locked? I cannot connect to internet.
