My video camera is displaying and error code C:31:23.
This error code isn't listed in the service manual.
It won't let me play tapes or record them.
Hello, I have the C:31:23 fault code on my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV740 Digital-8 Digital and giving it a good whack does not help. I have tried removing the battery, reset button and changing tapes and nothing. Can you give me any other advice? Also, can you clear up the rumor about Sony making a free repair for the 31:23 fault until Sept 2008? Thank You. Mike
I have been fighting the same problem. I just now picked up the camera and a small rubber roller fell out of the tape door area. I was not sure where it came from but looking closer there are 4 small rods sticking up on the right side inside the area where the tape is located. It looked like this was where the roller went so I placed it on the center rod and replaced the tape. This solved the problem and I am now able to view and recored as before. There most likely is a part that has either fell or broken off or is loose inside the tape area.

Error code 94:01 is an internal memory error. If you still get the error after reformatting the card or trying a different one, it's an electronic issue usually used by component failure and requires replacement of a circuit board within the camera.
Error code 31:40 indicates a problem in the cameras tape transport system. This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a defective clutch in the take-up spool or a faulty rotary mode switch. This will require disassembling the camera to repair andcan be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repairedby a qualified service technician.

1 Printer POR Turn the printer off and on several times. If Error Code 900 continues to display, go to step 2.
2 System board Make sure the system board is properly seated in connector J7 on the interconnect board. Turn the machine off and on several times, waiting a few minutes between power on and power off. If Error Code 900 continues to display, go to step 3.
3 Factory defaults Restore factory defaults. See “Restore EP Factory Defaults” on page 3-18. This resets the non-critical areas of the user NVRAM. If Error Code 900 continues to display, go to step 4.
4 Sub error codes With Error Code 900 displayed, press Select and Return. Record the complete list of Sub Error Codes on the display. Check the “Base printer sub error codes” on page 2-6. If none of the Sub Error Codes are listed, then call your next level of support.
I have windows xp and my web cam is pc camera 120 when I opened webcam nothing is displayed on the cam. It is displaying black screen. When I selected google camera adopter it is displaying 8007045a error. How can I solve my problem.
when you press the reset button, the first thing the camera does is a self-test of the mechanism. "cylinder lock" is displayed when the video rec/playback head drum (cylinder) motor does not operate or operates intermittently. this is usually caused by a poor connection on the small cable that connects the head drum assembly with the main control circuitry inside the camera. disassembly of the camera is necessary to clean and re-seat this cable, along with the cable that carries the video information to the head drum. I have repaired several of these cameras with this problem. it's not difficult, but an inexperienced repair person can do more damage than help if they're not careful.
E:61:00 means difficulty in focusing by the lens block.
On the MR pin sensor Board CD-285,CN2031 Pin No.8,9 check when peforming the manual focus control.
When the focus control is not adjusted manually, check the IC751 on the Mounted circuit board VC253 which controls the focus motor.
