My topload Roper washer is not filling up. Both hot and cold water come on but it doesnt stop running, I can't tell you how many gallons have been wasted. It started on the regular cycle so I switched to heavy and now it only fills on gentle.

this could be a simple fix, where your hoses screw onto the back, ensure that there is a screened washer in place as your cold water is pushing the hot water back through the lines so the hot can't come through with the cold running as well, thats why it will only be hot or cold, scoot down to your white goods center and they will provide you with the correct washer screens for your unit, cost should be no more than about $3 a piece. good luck.
This model of washer has something called an Automatic Temperature Control. This means the washer puts water into the tub at specific tempreatures instead of just 100% cold, or 100% hot. Be sure and check that the hot and cold fill hoses are connected to the proper places on the back of the washer. It's possible that the ATC (mentioned above) is causing the washer to fill slowly on the cold setting.
Turn off your water to the washer.
Remove the hoses from the valve at the rear of the washer and clean the trash out of the filter screen.
You have a cold fill rinse washer.
If it can't get water it stops advancing the timer.
you need to replace the water inlet valve on the washer that the hoses go on,it is stuck closed, have you tryed hot water only to see if it comes out?the valve has a hot and cold water supply valve, you can get one by going to sears .com click on parts out in your model number and order your part, let me know if you want to try it and i will tell you how to get into the cabinet-mike
This could mean the fill level is not working properly and there is an overfill situation.
Generally[I don't know 'Roper'] the fill level is controlled by a 'bottle' like device at the fixed to the outside of the drum at the bottom with, with a fine tube leading to a disk like thing near the top of the machine- with wire coming from it to the controller.
The 'disk' thing is the pressure sensor. and the bottle thing is supposed to fill with water and the air pressure in the tube actuates the switch in the 'disk'
Overtime the 'bottle' will get clogged with crud and need cleaning out.
This will mean taking it off and giving it a good cleaning.
Hope this helps.
