Printing Problem With My HP cp1700D Color InkJet Printer

I'm a computer professional, but I can't figure out this problem (printers are not my forte) .

The printer used to produce beautiful, even printing.

Now, every document contains a few lines here and there (apparently randomly), in which the printed text is light grey at the bottom, but gradually darkens to black towards the top of the line of text. Sometimes the text is blue-tinged, or green-tinged, at the bottom, gradually darkening towards the top of the line of text to black.

However, sometimes the lightening and darkening in the text height is reversed for one or more lines of text--again randomly--there is no definite pattern as to where this "lightening and darkening” of a line of text from top to bottom will occur on the sheet of paper. This means that, sometimes, the text is black at the bottom, gradually lightening to gray--or to a green or blue tinge--towards the top of the line of text.

But, other lines of text on the same sheet of paper are still just fine, and beautiful.

What can I do to fix this?

P.S.: It just occurred to me: does this problem just require my using the HP Toolbox, and trying various "Printer Services," such as: "Align Printheads"; "Align Printheads"; or "Calibrate Color"? Or does this problem require some other adjustment(s)?

Thanks for your anticipated assistance!

I'm a computer professional, but I can't figure out this problem (printers are not my forte) .

The printer used to produce beautiful, even printing.

Now, every TEXT document (graphic documents seem OK) contains a few lines here and there (apparently randomly), in which the printed text is light grey at the bottom, but gradually darkens to black towards the top of the line of text.

I even used the HP Toolbox, and tried various "Printer Services," such as: "Align Printheads"; "Align Printheads"; or "Calibrate Color"?   Alas, the problem remains!

What can I do to fix this?

I solved my own problem!  I physically removed each printhead, and wiped each clean with a moist paper towel.  I found that the black printhead had a accumulation of caked black ink unevenly spread on its right side.  I used the moist paper towel to completely clean off this caked black ink.  Then I carefully cleaned out the printhead wells with moist Q-Tips.  Then I replaced all of the cleaned printheads, and again printed a test document.

Voila!  No more uneven printing!  This once again proves to me the effectiveness of Occam's Razor:  i.e.,  ". . .all other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best!"

First clean the cartridge and then go to toolbox and give test print.

Color is stripey instead of solid

Run the "clean printhead" from your computer's printer utility.
It could also be that you're printing using "draft" or "low" quality settings

My hp c6180 has stopped printing in color

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

No color printing

Hi Jane17 - I had this same problem when I inherited a printer I had used in my office. I called Tech Support and they told me I had to have the installation disk that came with the printer when it was bought in order to get color printing. I was lucky the disk was still in my office and I was able to find it. I reinstalled the printer with that disk and the color properties were enabled with no problem. Perhaps your sister has the original disk for installation? If not, you can go to HP.com and follow the site tools to your printer. You can install online, but it takes some time. I hope this helps you a little if you haven't corrected the problem as yet. Feel free to let me know if this worked for you, and good luck.

CP1700 Alignment

Control Panel > Printers & Faxes > right-click on the printer and select Properties. Depending on your printer make and model, the option to align your printer should be in that menu somewhere.
