Tempermental TV

Ok so my friend bought me this TV for my birthday in September... ever since I've had it I've ran into the problem with the TV not staying on.

The picture cuts out and I get a 1/2 second static sound when it does.

Now when the picture cuts out I get 3 different displays (not all at once):
(1) Dark static screen with channel number and STD in top corner.
(2) A blue (or white) screen that flashes on and off and random intervals.
(3) The screen goes totally black as if it were off.

Number 1 can be fixed temporarily with power off / power on.
Number 2 and 3 I have to flip the switch on the back and leave it off for a few minutes before turning back on.

These are temporary fixes and the problem usually returns somewhere between 1min - 5hours.

It stopped doing this for about 2 weeks when I changed the location of the TV from one corner of the room to the other... both times the TV is approx. 2 feet from the wall intersection.
