leo2, thanks for replying but, I didn't understand your suggestion. When I take the last shot the camera automatically "rewinds". that's what you hear at least, however, it's just making the rewind noise; the film is still visible and in the same place as it would be if there was another 1 or 2 pictures to take. So, my problem is how to manually rewind the film w/o ruining it. Can you still help?

    Thanks,

    uptowng

Hi , in automatic rewinding spool it can be rewind unless the film spinning handle manually rotate if available this camera ,if available this handle you may remove battery push the film release below and rewind it.

mostly automatic camera does not have spinning handle ..

My 35mm film won't load. It keeps rewinding

Solution: Repair or replace auto-rewind system.
Cause: The built in auto-rewind system that supposed to work when film is finished but because it is faulty it receives wrong signal when film is lloaded. So the camera thinks the film is at the end of the roll.
Possible cost: $65-$75

just take another photo, if it reads 9 then the film is advancing. if it reads 7 then it's going to the cassette. no problem either way.
if the film is advancing, it will either rewind auto or there will be a rewind button or switch with a double arrow.
if the film is going to the cassette it will rewind auto.

How to open filnm compartment of old 35mm nikon

Is it an SLR model?

I am not familiar with Nikons; however, Minolta and Canon SLR film camera's film compartments are opened by lifting up on the film rewind mechanism on the top left side of the camera.

If the Nikons are designed like Minolta and Canon, there will be a small tab to push in at the bottom of the camera. This releases the film and allows it to be rewound. At the top left will be a small rewind lever that is used to do the rewind. The part of the camera that the rewind lever is attached to is pulled up to open the back of the camera.

The film wont advance

remove and reinsert battery.
be sure you pulled the film all the way across the back.
be sure the door latches.
be sure camera is on.
try the rewind button, it may think it has film in it, ready to rewind.
Still no good? film advance motor may be dead. If so, it needs repair. Lucky for you, the Maxxum 50 goes for cheap on Ebay. You can get another at a good price.

Minolta X300 camera

Hello

First thing to check with this is are we are talking about the correct part of the camera, the rewind lever on this model is on the left hand side (as you look through the camera), make sure you have raised the rewind crank arm (small plastic arm) out of the central knob, then looking on the bottom of the camera you should find a recess with a chrome button in it, push this button in, it releases the wind on mechanism, you should now be able to rewind the film using the crank, make sure you follow the direction of the arrow on the arm otherwise you will wind the film into the canister backwards, this will make it very stiff to wind and maybe scratch the film, plus you processor will not like you for this either.

Film rewind

For some reason the camera thinks it is at the end of the roll. You could turn off auto rewind, Custom Menu #1, to 0. This issue could manifest itself in cold weather as well, film becomes too stiff causing drag tripping the auto rewind. Call Nikon Film 1-800-645-6687. The camera may need to go in for CLA.
