Question about IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook

1 Answer

Belkin N1 wireless card stopped working in either port. No lights nothing.

Any ideas on how to fix my IBM T30? My wireless card works fine in other laptops. NO lights and all the efforts of the techs at Staples ended with software issues and still no lights .... Now I can't get past the "remove all install components" and I have no power lights no wireless internet access. I do have wired internet access. .... Any ideas?

oh.... I forgot to say that it worked fine for one year with no problems. Then 3 hours before a most important presentation, it just didn't power up. Any ideas?

oh... one more thing I should have typed... my wireless card worked fine in my other presenter's computer. Now I think that is all the facts you need to troubleshoot this issue.

Ok...the IBM is notorious for incompatibility with standard wireless specs. first place to check is wireless card site, for Belkin unit. Get the latest drivers.

then on to IBM site, and get the wireless configuration utility.

Then cross your fingers that IBM, in it's infinite Big Blue wisdom, has not excluded your Belkin from it's list of compatible products.

I'm not surprised it works with other laptops, since most of them sign up for the compatibility IEEE standards.

got backup?

Well..with that in mind, then I'd suggest that your wireless card has taken an early retirement(another IBM innovation when a valuable resource outlives it's perceived usefulness). Those cards do have a life span, and some get quite warm during regular usage. Do you have another wireless card,by chance, to check the internals on the Thinkpad?

Updating the BIOS firmware will not lose any data on your hard disk.
If the BIOS update is not installed properly or malfunctions then the T30 may stop working unless you can roll back the BIOS update.

You need to download the drivers for your Netgear.
The IBM drivers also need to be found,Depending on your model, it may have WiFi. From IBM spec sheet:
  • 10/100 Ethernet installed on the system board
  • Selected models will have Intel Wireless and modem Mini PCI combo cards
  • Selected models will have CISCO Mini PCI card
  • Selected models will have Bluetooth communication daughter card

We can't get our IBM T30 to connect with our Linksys router . The computer has a 3com wireless card

Has the Wireless card ever worked attached to another wireless router?

Is the card an internal miniPCI card, and is it an official IBM card for your region? Thinkpads check whether the card is for the correct region before configuring them in the Windows drivers.

Are you using the Thinkpad Assistant Wireless tool. I have found that it appears to be impossible to configure this software for 64 bit WEP or WPA PSK authentication.

Wireless button

The T30 laptops do not have a on/off button that turns the wireless card on.
Once the wireless card driver is installed the wireless card will detect any wireless router and access point within its range. You need to configure the wireless card to connect into the wireless router or access point eg. the encryption, SSID etc.
The Thinkpad laptops have different wireless LAN cards installed, when you install a wireless card driver and it doesn't work, then install a different model wireless card driver. Also make sure the XP or Vista version of the wireless driver matches the Windows version that is installed on the laptop.

Need WiFi instead of Bluetooth

You have two choices for a wireless connection, a PCMCIA card or a USB device.
My choice would be a PCMCIA card, because it frees up a USB port.
There are quite a few PCMCIA card to choose from, I favour Netgear and D-Link.
Their instructions make them easy to install and setup.
Let me know if you have problems.

Ibm think pad t30

Hi,

To my knowledge, your laptop (IBM ThinkPad X30 2672) does not have any built-in WiFi. It's modes of connection are IrDA, modem, Ethernet, USP, Firewire aside from the regular serial & parallel. This would indicate that if you are wireless you either have a USB dongle or PCMCIA card. Please post back with your WiFi brand/model and your Operating System. Further, please post back likewise your WiFi AP/Router brand/model.

The message "a network cable is unplugged" pertains to the absence of a lan cable connected to your Ethernet port.

Good luck, kind regards and will await your second post.
