Question about Denon AVR588 Receiver

No HDMI video output from AVR-588 receiver to plasma TV ???

My system:
* cable from wall to Cox cable box
* HDMI cable from cable box to Denon AVR-588 receiver
* component video cables (5) from DVD player to receiver
* HDMI output from receiver to TV

My problem:
* audio arriving at receiver from DVD player and going out to speakers OK
* no HDMI signal going from receiver to TV [<-- the big mystery]

Hunches:
1. something to do with output settings on the receiver
2. having HDMI out requires HDMI in

Already attempted:
* changing the resolution settings between 720, 1080 and 4--
[no difference]
* bypassing the receiver and going directly into the TV
[this worked, but not the final config I'm after]

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks for your solution, dmv916. I wound up connecting the sound from the DVD player via 2 coax cables to the avr-588 receiver and then, separately, the 3 component video lines from the DVD player directly to the TV (bypassing the receiver altogether). It works this way too.

    My Setup:
    [Sony PS3] -hdmi+optical-> [Denon AVR-488] -hdmi-> [Mitsubishi LCD TV].

    Problem:
    no video on Mitsu TV.

    Symptoms:
    1. the Mitsu TV recognizes the correct resolution from PS3. Tried 1080p, 720p, 480i.
    2. the Mitsu's screen is dark, as if it's trying to display the video, and not bright blue as if there was no signal.

    Other config's tried:
_ [Sony PS3] -hdmi-> [Mitsubishi LCD TV] works fine

    Please help.

The avr-588 apparently cannot carry sound via hdmi - don't know why; just what i found out from the geek squad at best buy; solved the problem by connecting optical cable from cable box to receiver; be sure to change the input on the receiver for opt-2 (system setup >2 inputs) to correlate with tv

You can also use a digital coax cable (color orange) to go into coax 1 for DVD coax 2 for cable box. Just make sure to set the coax in input settings. The coax cables are a little cheaper than the optical cables and work just as well.

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output

Denon AVR-488 , problems routing cable box through receiver to tv

If you don't have one, the manual is available online: http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/AVR-488-OM-E_101.pdf

Suggestions:

1. Reset to default values. Per page 36 of manual: 1. Turn off Power. 2. Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. 3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

2. Make sure you have AM or FM radio reception. This makes sure your speakers, amps, etc are connected and working correctly.

3. Connect DVD player to HDMI 1 in and TV to HDMI Monitor Out.
Play a known good DVD that works when you connected the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI.

Select the DVD/HDP input on the receiver and play the DVD. You should not have to perform any input assignments, etc. It should just work, as HDMI1 is the default system setting for DVD.

4. If possible, obtain a STB with HDMI out & repeat step 3 using the HDMI2 TV/CBL input. Keeping the signal path all digital (HDMI) will give you a better picture quality than forcing several analog to digital conversions (component video is analog).

4A. To use the component connection, first test by connecting the STB directly to the TV via component video/audio if possible. This tests that the component video output of the STB is working correctly.

Next, remove direct connection and connect via receiver. Connect STB to receiver as shown on page 13 in manual. Connect component video output from STB to component video input #2 (tv/cbl) on receiver. Connect the STB audio output to the corresponding tv/cbl audio inputs.

Make sure nothing is connected to the HDMI2 input or to any other TV/CBL inputs (composite video, s-video, digital coax audio).

Now select the TV/CBL input and turn on the STB. You should have both audio & video.

We have a Denon AVR Surround Sound receiver, a Samsung HDTV, an XBox 360, an ASD-3W Denon Ipod Dock and Klipswitch speakers with a subwoofer, center channel and too bookshelf speakers. We need help...

HDMI input connect as follows:

1. Connect an HDMI cable from the Cable box to the TV/CBL HDMI input on the Denon.
2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Xbox to the DVD/HDP input on the Denon.
3. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI out-put on the Denon to an input on the Samsung.
You don’t have to use the optical output from these to devices since the HDMI cable allows for the transfer of both audio and video, if you have them extra use them in addition to the HDMI cable and last,

4. On front of denon after you setup and assign your optical connections, if you use them, once you select TV/CBL or DVD/HDP as a source, press the input mode button to select auto

How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy

It cant up-convert component to hdmi. Input and output has to be the same. However, you wont lose anything cuz hdmi and component are comparable

Denon AVR 588 7.1-- Sound setup questions

This reciever does not decode the audio through HDMI, the HDMI ports are simply a pass-through. To get audio you need to connect an optical audio cable from the PS3 to the reciever also. I figured this out after 2 hours of trying to get audio from the HDMI cable. Here is a link that shows the different audio formats supported through HDMI by the different Denon models. It looks like the AVR-788 is the lowest model that supports audio through HDMI. Hope that helps.
