the printer not communicating with computer

check for the printer drivers go to start and right click on my computer icon then click manager in the manager menu look for device manager click on that........
u will find list of devices of your system search the printer there and just update the driver by rt clicking on printer icon

I used to have a Dell all-in-one and had same problem.
I asked Dell for new installation disc and re-installed it and that seemed to to solve the problem.

It seems to be an issue with the Print Spooler Service. Either the service is stopped or not started correctly. Try stopping and restarting the printer spooler services on your computer. For tips on how to restart the Print Spooler service, use the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_2319117_restart-print-spooler-xp.html. Now Reboot your system and try deleting the print queue. It should work fine now.

• Cable Issue: It could be a possible issue with the cable. Try replacing the USB cable.

Also DO NOT forget to update your computer's chipset drivers before this.

When you connect and reconnect your printer do you here a "ding" sound. If not then you're USB ports may not be acting correctly or the USB drivers have been infected. Download and run the following: Dr. Web, Malware Bytes, and Superantispyware. Once these are run then go to Start, Run and type SFC /scannow. Be prepared to insert your operating system disk. This should bring the USB drivers back online, then when you plugin your printer your should here a "ding" sound. If the printer still does not communicate then insure that the drivers have loaded. Goto Start, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes. Is your printer there? If it is then the communication problem is on the printer side. If the printer is not listed then select Install printer.

wolfhaus: Did you try creating another user account 'Administrator' or 'Standard' and see if it will print from that ?. Let me know if this helps or not.
