Printer won't work- just clicks, and hourglass shows on the screen
My 2400 was working fine, then out of the blue it started to just show an hourglass on the screen and make a clicking, racheting shound in the up right part of the machine (seen from the front). I removed the paper, checked that ther were no jams, but the problem continues. I reseated the print cartridges, but still the same problem. When I send a doc to print, I get the message that it did not print. I've re-installed the software and reconnected all cables, but still the same problem. The printer was working perfectly, making copies, transmitting photos, printing, etc. The, this problem just started out of the blue. Any advice?
Re: printer won't work- just clicks, and hourglass shows...
I would uninstall the printer completely remove all the software don't just chuck it in the bin, uninstall it properly. Remove all cables close down the pc and restart then run a fresh install using the software provided with the printer.. This way you have everything new and fresh.

I too have this problem and I have found how to
correct it. It worked for me and hopfully it will work for you and
others. Turn off your printer. Open the scanner cover. Turn your
computer back on. That is what I did and it fixed it for me for now.
Please send me an E-Mail if it fixed it for you. I have a sneaky
suspecion that it just started working again and me opening the scanner
cover was not the fix. Thanks, Wayne
Sounds like a registry or memory problem. Try doing a system restore in safe mode to a earlier time and see if that works. If not it may be a memory problem. If you can get it up in running in safe mode try shutting down some of the not needed start up programs by going to run and type "msconfig" without the " " and click start up and take out all the excessive stuff.

Answer on fixyourownprinter.com. Search there to see how to lubricate rod under scanner glass. Common fault. Mine responded instantly starting up fine after rod lubrication which stops scanner initialisation routine and leaves you looking at hourglass.
