Is the battery fully charged?
Have you disconnected the AC supply and pulled the battery? Sometimes the logic gets confused and needs the power completely removed to reset it.
Have you tried powering the laptop on with the AC supply and the battery removed?

Post answers to all the above questions.

Thanks, Jim

Cannot charge my laptop as my fitting for the charger is loose and is fitted to the motherboard

This is something that will need to be repaired. If you have an extended or manufacturer's warranty on the unit call the provider of that warranty. If you do not have a warranty you should either bring the computer and ac adapter to a store that offers service center repairs such as geek squad, or call the manufacturer for service. If you do not have a warranty you will have to pay for the repair, which if I remember correctly could be about $100.

Hi, I couldn't say what's wrong without looking at it but here are a few things to try:
First, be sure that there is power. some laptops report 'plugged in' simply because the plug is in the computer. Check fuses etc.
Second, remove the plug and then remove the battery. replace battery and re-plug the charger. This should reset the electrical system.

Hope this helps,

Packard Bell is notoriously known for being proprietary. You more than likely cannot replace the motherboard.

Packard bell utow co20 the computer will stay on for as long as I dont use it, but as soon as I start useing it it will shut down in about 5 mins

First things first: "work" in giving this away has dodged the "responsible disposal" bullet. Drivers for this unit are probably limited to windows 98 or earlier, as the last Packard-Bell was produced in that era. Drivers for sound in particular were Packard-Bell only, and since they aren't around any more unless you can get your hands on the original installation CD you're out of luck to make the existing soundcard work. You do howrever have the option to install a newer soundcard, that should fix that issue. As for the shutting down, make sure the heatsink has good thermal contact with the processor as it sounds like the processor may be overheating. If there's a fan make sure it is running.

You've got a challenge if you want to see it all work, have fun.

Chances are the notebooks adapter is broken. Take a look at this link & it will show & explain how to repair the jack.
http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/06/dc-power-jack-repair-guide/

Please read everything on the link.
If this is too tough to fix you're self. I suggest you take it to a pro. At least you'll all ready know what needs fixed.

Good Luck!

Packard Bell 4451 lap top will not power up.

check the back of the power connector to see if it is loose. I have known alot of situations were, if not carefully removed, that power connector in the can free itself from the sodder on the Mother board therefore you wont be able to charge the battery nor boot up. hope that helps
