Question about Zoom H4 Handy Recorder

Zoom H4 Recorder Says, "Card Full!" But it is NOT!

My Zoom H4 Digital Recorder says that my memory card is full, however I'm sure it isn't because I erased all recorded files off of it. It did this before and wouldn't record anymore, then worked after I let it sit for a couple weeks, now it won't work again - usually this happens when I need it most, of course.

I encounter this error with my 16 gb SD card and Zoom H4n.
I try to format the card inside and outside fo the Zoom, use 8 gb and 32 gb instead of 16gb card and, but get the same error.

But I find a solution.

1. I format my SD card inside Zoom with builtin utility. (Menu - SD Card - Format)
2. I reinstall Zoom firmware
(instruction and download here: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/h4n/software/ )
3. I format SD card inside Zoom again.

I took a several test and didn't get a "Card Full" error.

When I had this happen, it was because Windows Media Player was synching the H4 as soon as it was connected to the comp. So it loads all your computer music to the zoom, until the card is full. You won't see the music files in the zoom file list but when you look at the files in the card in the removable storage drive you'll see a file called "Music" I think, and when you delete that, hey presto, lots of storage again. You have to make sure windows media is closed when you plug in to prevent this.

I found the "no card" message went away and the recorder worked fine when I tried plugging the adapter into a different outlet. Don't ask me why -- all I know is that it doesn't seem to like one particular outlet in my music room.

Wonderful, formatting the card as you described seems to have worked for me. I had exactly the same problem. Thanks!

When I got my Zoom H4 a couple of months ago the first thing I did was upgrade the firmware and get an 8GB card. All I did was MP3-128 format until recently.
I was getting the Card Full message when I recorded in any format other than MP3-128, if it was longer than maybe 15 minutes.
Formatting my 8GB card did NOT help, at least not by using the Zoom H4's format utility.
Then, with it hooked up to USB, I used Windows Explorer tools to format it (FAT32) and then I stopped getting the Card Full message. Yay! That was today, hopefully it will stay fixed.

It keeps saying memory card is full. Bought a new memory card and put in and it still says the card is full.

Are you sure that isn't "internal" memory card is full message?

Sometimes, when "internal memory card is full" there is no more space in the camera's internal memory. Your camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The number of pictures you can store depends on the picture size setting you have selected on your camera. Keep in mind that the camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed (auto default).

If really, the problem is in the "SD memory card", I suggest make some backup all files and reformat the SD. Try formatting it in the camera, there should be a process in your owners manual for doing this; donw formatted SD in your computer, isn't good.

Hope helps.

My Zoom h4 has been struggling for a couple months now. Most of the time I get either an error message concerning the card or saying the card is full. Even when the card has been reformatted both on my pc...

Make sure the batteries are good... some people try to use re-chargeable batteries and because of their lower voltage they cause problems. First thing is to try new batteries.

Zoom H4 recorder ver 1.30 says no card although card is inserted?

Hi. Not sure you still are in need of a solution but since my machine was doing the same thing last night, and I was able to solve it, I thought I'd post anyway.
For my machine, which has a more current OS than yours (mine is 2.20 I believe), I was receiving the same message after transferring material onto the computer. What needed to happen was to reformat the card. If you press "menu", the click on "file" you should have an option to reformat the card. It worked for me and it now works.
Hope that helps!

File import in 4-track mode impossible

Convert the audio to Mono WAV (16Bit, 44.1KHz). This can be done by using Cubase(Hope you got Cubase LE with Zoom). In an empty project import the audio, then mark the whole track using the Draw tool and then got to File->Export. Here select the above options and export. Import this file into Zoom H4 either by copying directly into the memory card or through connecting the Zoom to computer ( I copy it directly into the memory card's STEREO folder). Now if you import it to any project, it will appear there. You can now use Zoom H4 as a Karaoke device!! Anyway, sad that Zoom H4 doesn't support stereo tracks in the 4Track mode.

Zoom h4 not recognized by computer

Mac OS 10.4 and higher require the Zoom H4 to be upgraded.
Go to http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php#a and choose the download to version 2.20 that applies to you. The instructions are there, but it is a little tricky. You must download the upgrade to your computer and then transfer it to your Zoom SD card. To do that you need an SD card reader. I used my digital camera. I took the SD card out of the zoom and put it in the digital camera. I Plugged the camera into the computer and when the SD card icon appeared on the desktop I dragged the "System Bin" file from the download to the zoom folder. The rest of their instructions were pretty good. Good Luck.

Display reads "No Card"

Zoom h4 supports cards up to 2GB. And, I'm almost sure, this is a thing that can't be upgraded through software.
