Question about Computers & Internet
IBM 9497-DG0 18 inch monitor. Displays rapidly shifting, light-colored lines about 1inch from the bottom of the screen and continuing up for 1-3/4inches;. These look almost exactly like 'bar codes'. They flicker and shift horizontally. The screen can rotate 90 degrees. Rotating it both physically and logically causes these 'bar code' lines to move with it. The lines are very light yellow on a white screen and dark blue on a black screen background. I can clearly see the text and graphics thru them so it's more of a nuisance than anything. Any ideas? Thanks. --Dirk
It sounds like it's a problem with the video card, as opposed to a problem with the monitor. If you have another machine, or a laptop, or a friend with a laptop you can find out - just plug it into the other machine, and if the problem goes away, it's the video card. If not, it's the monitor.
While the card may be bad (if it has a dead fan, and has overheated) you will probably need to replace it. But if may just be loose, assuming it is a and on video card and not an onboard one. If it is an onboard video, you can usually disable it and put in an add on video card, which would resolve the issue as well.
