LCD screen shows weird colours

The camera lcd screen on the back is displaying weird colours and distorted pictures. When a photo is taken the image is very weird in colours and horizontal lines when displayed on the CD (not matching what was shown in viewfinder when taken) and the photo itself on the computer is also distorted. Lens is OK. Have checked all menu settings and butons, reset CF card, but still no luck ANY IDEAS? Cheers David I have a 4 year old Fugi S7000 which has become useless. At first the viewer and pictures had strange purple-green images, sometimes what I would describe as static lines across the picture, it would come and go. Now the purple/green image condition is constant. Resetting defaults, battery contact cleaning had no effect. Sometimes letting the camera set for a week or two seems to allow me to take a few pictures which are normal.

I have just started to experience the same problem. The back screen , left side is showing some distortion with green & purple colours. So far the right side is normal. When I view pictures taken they are not affected and the screen shows normal colours?

I have the canon powershot s230 and canon acknowledges that this issue is a defect with one of their parts.  Therefore, they will repair the camera free of charge.  You are not required to provide proof of purchase and they do not ask about how long you've had the camera - I've had mine for about five years.  A friend of mine had the same issue and they just replaced her camera. I'm waiting to hear whether mine will be replaced or repaired, but either way, it is free of charge.

My camera has the same problem with blue / green static that has become progressively worse over time. Nearly every image is distorted and the camera is essentially useless.

I have a Canon Powershot A70 and when I take a picture now, the display shows a photo with horizontal lines across with very little color. Is there anything I can do? Donna

Dear dkserv:

This is almost certainly a CCD image sensor problem. The PowerShot A70 has a Product Advisory on this very issue and if you are indeed experiencing it, Canon will repair the camera at no charge regardless of how long you've owned the camera.

If the LCD screen shows this distortion in all shooting modes, yet you can see the menu (press the MENU button) just fine and/or any images taken previous to the malfunction without distortion then you've got it!

Call Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 (M-F; 8 am - midnight EST) and tell them you think you might have the CCD Image Sensor issue and they will take care of it.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

I got the same problem - When I take the picture and look at it later on the screen of the camera it's fine but when I upload it on my computer I get these really weird lines of different exposure. It's a laptop running on vista which is a new machine and never had the problem on my old computer.

Sony Mavica MVC-FD75 Digital Camera pictures taken come out as colour negatives

If you can use the LCD to take a photo and then use the LCD to review it later then the fault can't be with the camera. Have you tried checking the photos on another computer? Maybe your software is corrupt and needs uninstalling and then reinstalling again. Actually, from memory this camera has a few effects and one of them could be a negative. Check that you haven't switched the effect on by mistake. You'll find it in the camera's menu. What's causing the distortion I'm not sure.
