Question about HP DeskJet 5550 InkJet Printer

Printer issue My dad has a HP Deskjet 5440. He recently installed two cartridges and now the arrow light keeps flashing and we are getting prompts that the cartridges are incorrectly installed. I have taken them out twice and put them back in correctly. Also, I went to HP's website and we have the latest drivers installed.

Did you remove the cellotape from the cartridges' heads?

Unplug the power and replug it .
Make sure you removed the protection tape from the cartridge.
Try pressing the down arrow button and see if the error goes away.
In vista right click the printer and select the option Use printer online.

Paper Jam Issue with the HP Deskjet 5440


Clean the contacts on the HP Cartridge. I've had the same error before and i switched it to a fresh new cartridge.. works fine ever since. THen i decided to switch back to the old cartridge, same error as you but i cleaned the contacts on the cartridge, works for a while but done after a week. Problem is that the ribbon circuit is rusted and the printer doesnt recognize the ink anymore.

Also make sure you both have the ink cartridges in place. Make sure it is seated properly inside.

Installed new cartridges; keep getting error message


I'd say your using dodgy aftermarket or non HP cartridges, you could put your old ones in and see if message goes away, if having problem when using with Original HP cartridges post back and I'll did deeper for you.

I dont work for HP, I do know printers :-)
