Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Maytag dryer My older model Maytag dryer is not longer drying clothes. Originally, it made noise, I adjusted the belt... and then went further by purchasing a new belt. Installed it properly, smooth side down... not in groove... in center of drum... The dryer is tumbling. There is heat, but it still takes 12 rounds on the cycle to dry a small to medium load. There is also condensation build up in the drum. What is my next step? Idler pulley? Blower? Buy a new dryer??? HELP

Last week when I replaced the belt, I took a vacuum cleaner to the interior as there was practically an afghan knitted in the bottom. I just cut the length of the flexible hose in half to see if that would help with ventilation. I did some roter-rooter work on the inside of the hose and went outside to check the vent and flap outside. There was a little wet lint build up that may be preventing some ventilation. I'm still getting a condensation build up in the drum. Is there any place that I might have missed? I think I'm going to replace the outside vent just in case.

Dear sloika,
I do not believe the problem lies within the dryer unit.
when the dryer unit fails to dry clothes in reasonable time 90% of the time it is the clogged air vent is the reason.
Dryer vent cleaning improves the safety and efficiency of your dryer installation. As dryer vents become filled with lint and other debris, drying time increases and can cause the dryer itself to overheat. This increases energy consumption since the dryer has to run longer to dry your clothes and can also cause fires in the dryer or the dryer duct. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports dryer related home fires are on the increase.

  • First check your vent hose between the back of dryer and the air outlet on the wall. Vaccum clean the dirty hose and even into the dryer unit using flexable vaccum attachment. also try to vaccum clean airoutlet that goes into your wall as far reach into and much as possible. The dryer's lint filter and its path needs to be cleaned as well.
  • If all air flow path are cleaned it will improve 200% of your drying time.
There is also professional dryer vent cleaners in your area who can help solve the problem. just check your yellowpages..

Good luck!

If you are still getting condensation build up inside the dryer It looks like that you need to have the air vent cleaned out professionally.

What pro-vent cleaners will do is they will attach a rag to the spinning snack chain to clean inside of the air vent path from one end to the other..

This method usually cleans out 1/2 bag full of lint buildup from well clogged vents.

I think their usual charge are between $60~100.

    Hope this helps..

My Maytag Performa dryer is making a horrible sound...still working though. Wondering if it is a belt?? Can I fix myself?

go to Sears and purchase the belt with an idler pulley with it. It comes as a kit. The pulleys bearing has dried out bearing that went flat in spots which causes this horrible noise
the top and the front of your dryer needs to come off to access these parts

Maytag gas dryer squealing

Hi, this is a belt issue. make sure the tension on the belt/motor is sufficient. adjust to specs. if the belt is fine, this will be bad bearings in the roller assembly.

Replace the rollers in this case.

Dryer makes rumbling noise intermittently

It sounds like a faulty roller under the drum. Need to pop the top of the dryer, then remove the front -- you'll probably easily spot the faulty part.

Longer time to dry clothes

Remove the rear connecting vent and run a 45 minute timed dry load. If it works correctly repair the connecting vent and or blockage in the wall.
If this does not correct the problem make sure the glow bar is cycling at the gas valve and report back for further repair.
