My head unit(cde-9881) and ipod(5th gen. 30Gb w/video) worked fine for a couple of weeks but now head unit searches for ipod forever. Ipod charges while plugged in but head unit just says "SEARCHING". I have tried :updating ipod version1.2.3, resetting head unit and ipod, plugging in other ipod and it works fine, and cleaning connections. What else can I try?

When you press the SOURCE/( ' ) button and select iPod as the source, make sure you turn on AUX+ so that the external device is used as the source. AUX+ is turned off when you want to use an iPod with this head unit.

If you happen to have the tool which allows you to remove your head unit from the dash use it. If not go to crutchfield.com and get one it's useful for any audio enthusiast. Once you have the tool pull the head unit out on the back of the unit there is a cable that is black with a blue connector tip. This is what you plug your cable that you got from your audio dealer into. As for making the cable accesible you may have to drill a hole in your dash or run the wire around and out the glovebox which is also common and suggested for your particular car.
Add Alpine's optional "Full Speed" connection cable and you'll be able to use the CDE-9872 to control your iPod. -Crutchfields website
This is compatible with first and second generation iPods touch. fyi- if you have a mini-stereo aux in jack on the deck you can connect a ipod touch compatible mini stereo cable to the earphone jack of your ipod.
