Question about Sony CDP-C910 10-Disc CD Changer

4 Answers

Motor runs continuously

There is a vertical metal bar inside the changer that appears to either push the CD's into the magazine or into position to play. This bar moves front to back or vise versa. The problem is that as soon as the power button is pushed this bar starts going back and forth constantly. When a magazine is inserted it continues to run but the magazine is ejected after a few moments.

yes. I've taken the unit apart and pulled the cd compartment out to look carefully from all angles. When I plugged it back in it does the same thing.

  • ddewey Feb 16, 2008

I've had the power off for several days before plugging it back in and trying to find the problem again. This is not a car model of cd player. we've had it for about 4-5 years and it has worked great in the past.

The cdx version is the car stereo. Mine is the CDP-C910 model.

I appreciate all of the comments made thus far on this issue. Do you have any further advice on repairing this problem? I would like to repair it myself but I don't have a repair manual. It appears there is a problem in a switch or possibly the control board. Is this type of technical advice within realm of your tech support or do I need to take it to a repair shop? Thanks again.

Hi,

Did you check that there are no foreign objects in the magazine compartment? Also, did you check that the magazine is in good shape (nothing broken or protruding)?

It is a mechanical switch problem. You must disassemble it by yourself if you have some experience or to append to service shop.

Hi there try to disconnect the power as it is doing this wait 10 seconds then hopefully the unit has reset itself as it might be a control board glitch. Have you recently installed in a new car if so check that you have the correct connection as if the pin outs are incorrect can also cause this problem.

Thanks J

How do I remove a stuck 6CD changer magazine?

Our Bose has a 5 CD player, So, I'm not sure if this is the same for your base unit, but here goes. You'll need: a bright light and a small screwdriver that reaches inside the chassis (or equivalent).

1. Disconnect the base unit from the system.
2. Turn the base unit upside down and find the access hole embossed with "Manual magazine release" on the CD player side.
3. Using a bright light, look inside the base unit at those access holes and find the fine spring and locate where it fastens to the sheet metal of the CD player.
4. When you find the spring you should see that it connects to the CD player chassis at the forward end and a piece of sheet metal that is on top (actually underneath when the base unit is right-wide up) of the CD player chassis at the rear end. This is the manual release mechanism.
5. Using the small screwdriver, push the release mechanism rearward to release the CD magazine from the player. The magazine should pop out.

If the magazine is not released, then the CD that is still in teh player has not been slid back fully into the magazine. In this case you'll need to plug the base unit back into power and hope that the CD is retracted, allowing you to push the release mechanism rearward. If not then you'll have to open the base unit to access the CD player.

My 04 yukon cd changer won't eject the cd. any advise?

if you push the eject cd magazine button on the changer does it sound like it's trying to eject it? if it doesn't you'll need to replace the changer. if it does, then you've got a stuck cd magazine tray. it sounds weird, but when i was working on land rovers this happened all the time on the full size range rovers. what we did was push the magazine eject button on the changer to eject the cd magazine and sort of slap the changer around a bit. 90% of the time it worked. the other times, we'd go in with a 90 degree pick and try to push the stuck cd tray back into the magazine (while it was still in the changer) while pushing the eject magazine button on the changer. and you'll need to replace the cd magazine. if it happens again, you'll need to replace the entire changer.

Hi
Open top cover, if the empty magazine was left inside the cd trays it can slide out into the playing area and jam the unit, check it like that anyhow. Sometimes you can see a small metal tab to release the magazine.

However Error1 means Battery inside CD Changer needs to be replaced.
And NO CD.CD error message means No CD in magazine or no magazine in CD Changer.

To fix the problem, disconnect the CD changer.
take off the top plastic slide cover,
with a small screwdriver slowly move the gearing so that the CD disc holder will move back to the load - unload position.
Pop out the CD holder.
Replace unit, reconnect the optic and power lead, switch on radio and the unit will work again.
grease the moving parts with light lubricant.

The 6 disc magazine will not eject -

Ok..just happened to me. I'm a tinkerer so it's assumed that everything is out of warranty. The low down and skinny is this. The last disc holder is stuck on the metal changer tab, preventing the magazine to eject. 1. Remove the six screws on the left and right sides. 2. Use a small flathead screwdriver to GENTLY pry off the front Alpine CHM-S620 plastic facia.\ 3. On both left and right sides, collapse and push in the rubber suspension mounts. 4. Carefully remove the vertical/horizontal mount springs. 5. Gently pull off the data cable ribbon. 6. Flip over the changer unit. Use a coathanger to gently push the cartridge back into magazine. **You may damage the cd and last holder. Small price to pay to get things back to working order though. You may also have to wiggle the last cd holder to get it over the metal lip. 7. Reassemble in reverse order. 8. Change out that last cd cartridge so it doesn't jam again. Good luck.

Magazine won't eject

HI, the load motor has failed in your changer and , you will have to replace this. its part of the loading dock assembly and it turns all the gears associated with the loading and playing procedures.

If you are hearing continuous clicks, this will be the reason for the failed motor.

I receive error msg and cant eject magazine

The magazine in our Sony CD player would not eject. I tried pressing two buttons at the same time etc., with no result. I uplugged the player, removed the screws that hold the black metal cover on and took off the cover (pull the metal up, out and away at the back bottom sides, then slide it back to release the lip from under the front pane.) Looked down inside and saw the problem, a CD disc extended about 1/2 inch from the magazine, blocking ejection. I pushed the extended edge of the disc back into the magazine with the tip of a kitchen knife. Plugged the player back in, pushed power and then the eject button, and the magazine ejected. Replaced the metal cover and it works fine. If it won't eject again I know what to do. Be sure to unplug before you work, you don't need an electrical shock.
All the best, Sonia Murray
