I have just got my new slim ps3 and have no access as yet to the internet and need too know how to get my atrac and bd software updated or upgraded

Hello, unfortunately there are only two ways to perform a system software update. Via internet, or system storage device. I would advise taking it to a friend or relative's if they have wireless internet? Here is instructions on how to set up your wireless internet. On the playstation main menu, go to settings then network settings. Select wireless then select scan, select the access point you wish to use. Then check the SS-ID for the access point, select the security you wish to use. Enter the encryption key and when you have finished this a list off connections will appear. If you have internet access,go there download the update to your computer. Then download the update with the encryption key to a usb thumb drive.Then on the usb port of PS 3 install the updates there.

You may have to renew the AACS encryption key to play content such as movies on commercially available BD video software (BD-ROM). If a message indicating that the encryption key needs to be renewed is displayed, update the system software to the latest version. The encryption key will then be automatically renewed.
AACS (Advanced Access Control System) is a copyright-protection technology that is used on Blu-ray Discs. The copyrighted content is protected by setting an encryption key on both the disc and the device used to play the disc.
An AACS encryption key expires in 12 to 18 months and must be renewed. There may also be other times when the key has to be renewed. in the manual

You need to perform a Firmware Update.

you need to go to samsung.com go here: bd-p1400 samsung blu-ray player

Click on firmware and follow the instruction to make a disk. You can also plug this player into your network to get onto the internet to update it. I have heard of there being some problems though

I had the exact same problem. I found an old post somewhere that said turning off an internet connection might do the trick. So far it has done the trick for me, but I only tested on one movie. I was getting a freeze every 10 minutes. After turning off the network connection ( wireless in my case but same should apply to wired ) I had no freezes. I'm not sure if I see a pattern but I'm guessing that BD Live may be the culprit and perhaps discs without it suffer because of some bug in the PS3 software to connect or something. Just a wild guess. Looking at updates, BD Live came in on firmware update 2.2 in 3/08. I probably only upgraded recently from a much older version so there is some likelihood to this being the culprit. Don't have enough discs with BD Live to test.
