I have the same problem. I pulled out all of the screws and still seems to internally snapped together. would like to use a saw to open it up.

I have the same problem. The steam just comes out from around the seal, it won't go through the coffee and into the little carafe. The frother works fine just won't make any expresso, just a bunch of steam into the air.

At first I thought the seal between the basket and the machine was shot or plugged up so I took the ***** out and cleaned the screen. A simple task and I thought great, **w finally a cup of coffee; wrong it made ** difference.

By the way I have 2 fnd1 and both have the same problem. I am going to take one apart and investigate. I'll post if I manage to fix it.

I have the same need - to open the boiler. After a cup of Espresso was made the maachine (knob) was left in the "on" position and now it will not heat water and the red light will only light in the steam position.

We have removed the "feet" on the bottom of the unit and found it requires a special security type screw driver which we will be obtaining and will advise further as we proceed.

We want to open to fix or replace the heating element and/or fuse.

the problem i have is that the blow off happens when i steam the milk .i have this KRUPS FND1 working good for atleast 2 yrs, until a couple of days ago it had a blow off if that is what you call it so I disasembled to see if I could find out what happend .what had happend is the hose that goes to the steamer pulled off the connection because the pressure was to great. so I put a clamp on the hose to hold it on thinking that mabe the glue did not hold, wrong I tried the steamer and the other end of the hose came off with a bigger pop.what should happen is the light comes on to let you know to turn off the steamer switch so it could relieve the pressure. I also tried to keep the basket handle less thight no luck. don't know what to do next , mabe it has something to do with a control valve that is not working ? help carlo

you can use a alen wrench if you don't have the proper tool, one screw inside the door to the water then use fine flat screwdriver next or some other toor to get under dial handle to force gentle upward to release 3 points that is holding it in place .the little tabs can click back wen you press it back on. be gentle so that you don't brake plastic tabs. know start with the back of of the cover with a knife or thin tool to pry gentle to release tabs 2 in the front 2 on the sides .modle fnp1

The krups machine can be opened with a special screwdriver. i made my own by taking a standard flat-head and carving out a notch in the center with a dremmel and cutting wheel.
with all screws removed, i believe the only other thing in your way is the power knob which has to be removed to get the top off. there is a release on the inside part of the shaft. with the bottom of the machine open, you will have to reach inside to activate the release and then pull the knob off. after that, the top should open right up.

I have a similar problem - mine will froth milk, but not make coffee. I followed the tip above of making a tool for the security screws by taking a file to a screw driver bit. The power knob popped off with a screwdriver. Once inside the various screws are readily apparent except for one. There are three screws that secure the two halves of the boiler tank - one is blocked by the switch for the power light - there are two retaining clips which allow that to be removed. The tank was badly scaled with calcium deposits despite repeated cleaning with vinegar (8 times +) - I believe the valve is blocked with similar. If a compressor won't blow it out, it's to the dump with this one...

I have a solution: throw it in the garbage and buy something quality. (you might be thinking i'm a snob... however...) I bought the same one and i'm using it right now. it's brand new... i got it on sale for $60. it's not worth the hastle of fixing. it will probably just break again anyway. a good espresso machine will never break.

Water shoots out of steam valve and can't make espresso

Samantha,

The steam function and the expresso use the same elements to create the steam but the valves will direct the steam to the expresso unit or the steam arm. Most likely you have a faulty valve. In most cases the valve will not open until the pressure gets to the right level. If you are just getting hot water out of the steam arm instead of steam via the expresso unit it most likely means that the valve is faulty. The valves can be replaced but is not easy. You will need to have the unit serviced or you could try to replace the valves. Make sure the flow meter is working before you replace the valves. You can check the operation of the flow meter by running the hot water cycle and making sure that you get the right amount of hot water. Good luck!

I have a Krups XP 7230 Expresso Machine. Water is...

I have a xp7240 which I believe has the same housing as yours. I can remove the bean container by pulling off the grind selector knob and removing the only screw.
Then remove the scute for the cleaning tablets. Then remove the two screws that were covered by the scute. Remove the water tank. Under the tank remove the two screws.
Then the trick where everyone seems to look for: The facade of aluminum can be moved off. Set the machine on the floor and pull hard upwards at the facade. This comes off (pull hard!) and four screw are uncovered. Remove them and pull then back housing of the machine (remove first the containers/drawers). Now the inner parts are freely accessible. Take photos and remove the components from top till bottom to get to the bad parts that need replacement. The valve that leaks is on the bottom of the machine (will cost you a lot of time to get to it. Don't know the replacement price.) Good luck!

When I try to make espresso with my new XP2070, water comes out through the steam arm and not through the nozzles. I've tried it without coffee and all the water still comes out through the steam/hot water...

David, the XP2070 won't operate properly until you've set the clock on the unit.

In case you don't have an owner's manual, I've attached a copy of the manual from the Krups site that you can download and print for free.

Please take some time to reaquaint yourself with the setup and procedure for using the expresso portion of the unit, as you might just have some sequence issues that is preventing the expresso from getting brewed.

Otherwise, it could be that the unit has a faulty seal in the pressure vessel that isn't allowing the expresso side to function properly, hence the reason the water might be coming out of the frothing tube instead of through the expresso brewing section.

You should have the main machine, the screw-top to the main machine, a handled cup that holds the grounds, and inside that should have a metal lining. Drain basin. Main body should have: Screw top, turn-switch, milk foamer attached.

if the water is leaking from the back left side of the unit then the seal/valve to the expresso water container is lose and leaking. you can either go the warranty route or open the back up and tighten the two screws holding the seat/valve in place.
