The Factory Default installs a new copy of Windows Vista™ on the computer. The installation restores the computer back to the factory installation of Windows Vista with all the drivers and programs that originally came with the computer.
Notes:
  • Be sure that you back up your data files before performing this option. All of your personal data files and applications are erased during the recovery process.
  • Due to the large number of virus and Spyware threats on the Internet, it is recommended that you disconnect all Internet connections before performing the recovery. After the recovery, antivirus and firewall software can be installed, and then the Internet connection can be re-enabled to update the antivirus definitions and perform Microsoft® Windows Updates.

On picture taking mode, screen is black but can still take pictures

Please provide more detail about your problem.

Does the screen play back the pictures ok but not during record mode? Or is it off all the time and you used a computer to review the shots that were taken?

Check the basics listed below:

1. The screen may be switched off.
Press the display button on the back while the camera is on. This toggles the display setting between various settings such as Off/ On / Info. Keep pressing the button to try the aternate modes, it just goes round and round to 2 -3 different modes.

2, Check that the monitor brightness setting is set to medium at least in the menu's.

3. If the problem is only affecting recording then check that the main record settings are correct for the type of scene you are taking. For example don't use Beach, Snow, Candle or manual with a high shutter speed while taking regular daylight shots with minimal lighting.

. 4. If the LCD display has a hardware issue you could connect the camera to a TV using the video output jack and look at it that way. Then you'll know if the built-in LCD is ok or not.

5. Having a damaged or stuck video output jack COULD cause this problem also since that circuitry is designed to automatically shut off the built-in LCD display when you connect a video cord to it. Note that having a video cable plugged in to the video output jack would shut off the display also. Such as when you have it connected to a TV.

Why is canonS3IS screen blank

Please clarify your problem so someone can help you.

1. Does the camera power up? It has good batteries and the Status Indicator LED lights up showing that the camera has adequate battery power?

2. Is the screen blank when playing back previously taken photos also, just during recording, or all the time?

3. Can you see the camera menu's ok but not the live view of the subject.. or is everything blank?

4. Are you quite familiar with the menu's and most aspects of this camera model and you're sure all the settings are correct?

Please provide more detail.
In the meantime check the basics such as:

1. Press the display button on the back while the camera is on. This toggles the display setting between various settings such as Off/ On / Info. The screen may be switched off.

2, Check that the monitor brightness setting is set to medium at least in the menu's.

3. If the problem is only affecting recording then check that the main record settings are correct for the type of scene. For example don't use Beach, Snow, Candle or manual with a super high shutter speed while taking regular daylight shots.

2nd example .....If you set the shutter speed really high such as 1/1000 second while using indoor lighting the shots will be very dark.

4. If the LCD display has a hardware issue you could connect the camera to a TV using the video output jack and look at it that way. Then you'll know if the built-in LCD is ok or not.

5. Having a damaged or stuck video output jack WOULD cause this problem also,, since that circuitry is designed to automatically shut off the built-in LCD display when you connect a video cord to it. So leaving a cord plugged in to the video jack would shut off the display.

My HP monitor (f50) has malfunctioned

Try these 2 steps if they don't work get back to me :)

Step 1. Connect the video cable and turn on the computer. What happens?
  • If the monitor screen remains blank (no startup screens or onscreen display messages), the monitor must be connected to another computer using a different cable to determine if the monitor is bad. Skip to the Step to connect the monitor to another computer.
  • If the monitor is capable of displaying boot screens but is unable to display Windows, use the following steps to set the computer to a compatible resolution:
NOTE: Find the native display resolution for your monitor in the User Manual or in the product specifications for the monitor model. If you are unable to find the native display resolution for your monitor model, temporarily use 1024x768 for troubleshooting purposes.
    1. Turn on the computer and press the F8 key repeatedly when the first startup screen appears.
    2. If you are using Windows Vista, select Enable low resolution video (640 x 480) , press Enter , and wait until Windows opens. To set display settings that match the monitor, use the steps in the HP support document, Changing Display Settings, Background Image, and Screen Saver in Windows Vista . If you are using Windows XP, select Enable VGA Mode , press Enter , and wait until Windows opens. Continue using these steps to set display resolution. If you are using Windows 98 or ME, select Safe Mode and perform the following steps to enter into a standard VGA mode:
      1. Once Windows opens to the desktop in Safe Mode, click Start , and Run .
      2. In the Open field type msconfig and press Enter . The MS Configuration Utility window appears.
      3. Click the Advanced button, and select VGA 640 x 480 x 16 if it is available.
      4. Click OK and restart the computer.
      5. After Windows opens, click Start , and then click Run .
      6. In the Open field type msconfig and press Enter .
      7. Click the Advanced button, and remove the checkmark next to VGA 640 x 480 x 16 .
      8. Click OK . Do NOT restart the computer.
    3. After Windows opens, right-click on an open area of the desktop and select Properties (Windows XP, 98/Me) or Personalize (Windows Vista).
    4. In Windows Vista, Scroll down and click Display Properties . In Windows XP, 98, or Me, click the Settings tab.
    5. In Windows Vista, select the native display resolution size using the Resolution slider. Set Colors to Highest (32 bit) . In Windows XP, select the native display resolution size using the Screen resolution slider. Set Color Quality to Highest (32 bit) . In Windows 98 or Me, select the native display resolution size using the Screen Area slider. Set Colors to True Color .
    6. Click Apply after you have made your adjustment. The screen should blank out temporarily and come back.
    7. If you are satisfied with the new display settings, click Yes on the Monitor Settings windows. If you are not satisfied or if the screen just goes black, wait: Windows sets the screen back to the way it was before. Try another setting until you find a display configuration that is compatible with the monitor and meets your needs.
NOTE: If the native resolution is not available, download and install updated video driver software for your computer. Updating the video driver software can add more resolutions (graphics modes).
    8. Restart the computer. The monitor should now display a full screen image in high quality. You are done.
Step 2: Connect to another monitor
Using a different cable, connect the monitor to another computer that has video. Turn on the monitor and the newly connected computer. What happens?
  • If the monitor works, the video hardware on the original computer is likely to be the source of the problems. You can try connecting the original computer to another monitor that works to update its video drivers.
  • If the monitor remains blank, repair or replace the monitor.

How to turn off "highlight" image display on D-80

Hi there,
This happens when you accidentally press the up or down button when viewing images on the playback. If you press up or down a few times it goes to a screen that looks like normal playback but with the flashing highlights.
All you need to do is press up or down until it goes back to the normal screen.
Hope that helps!

  1. Turn on the HP All-in-One.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the unit.
  3. Press and hold the # and 3 buttons simultaneously.
  4. While still holding down the # and 3 buttons, connect the power cord to the back of the unit.
  5. Continue holding the buttons until the Power button blinks.
  6. Follow the instructions that display on the unit to select the language settings.
Then when that's done, try printing, or copying items. If its still not working, check the ink and change those out and this should fix it.

Sounds like its simply going into power save mode. Does your screen come back on when you move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard? Is the computer still on? Check your power options in control panel.

There is a button on the back that can be pressed called Disp. (stands for Display). There are two or three settings it flips through each time you press the button. Press this button a few times to cycle through the choices in each of the playback and camera mode to see if this resolves your issue. Happy snapping...

If you open the part that gives you access to the battery and the memory stick you'll see a small button that says 'reset'. I'm actually not sure what it resets, but you could give that a try.
