Sony kv-40xbr800 won't turn on, blinks 6 or 7 times

My Sony kv-40xbr800 won't turn on, then the LED on the front bezel blinks repeatedly 6 times (once in a while it blinks 7 times after attempting to turn the set on.) When it is starting it makes a popping noise right as the audio starts to kick in.

I've tried unplugging it for a minute to a few hours, that doesn't help.

It will turn on normally if you let it sit for a long time. We have been just leaving it on and it works fine. But, every once in a while we forget that it is broken and turn it off. It takes a few days of trying then it works again.

Otherwise it works fine.

Wow, was I lucky. The store had thrown in a five year warranty that I had forgotten about. The repairman took the board in and had the defective module replaced in less than a week. He said that the repair and labor would have run over $400 otherwise.

Do what I did. Look in your local yellow pages for any television
repairman who is familiar with Sony televisions, in particular, one who
has worked on these particular models.

My local repairman felt confident that it was related to an IC power
reg. (I don't know what 'reg.' means, he just wrote that on the
receipt). I've looked through various web sites & I've become
aware of D-board problems associated with this model(s). A D-board is
essentially like a motherboard (just like in computers), and this
particular circuit that is bad is like a little chip located on the
board. I'm not an electrically inclined person, but at least I've done
a little research before I hired this local repairman.

Anyways, I had him replace the integrated power circuit (part # MCZ
3001DB), which required removing the existing, soldered one &
    re-soldering the new one.

It has been working w/o any problems since he replaced the part.
Although it has only been 5 days since, again, the repairman was
confident that was the problem & that it should last for quite a
    while (hard to predict really).

The bottom line...it only costed me $123, which included him coming over to my house instead of me lugging the impossible! It only took him approximately 30 minutes total.

Anyways, do some research...you may be lucky that it the cost of repair
is significantly lower than buying a brand new LCD from somewhere...

    Good luck!

There are two large electrolytic caps on the D board located on the same side as the hv xformer.
both caps are 1200ufd at 250v, replace C6503, it is futher away from the side of the pcb.
this is the part of the ac rectifier that feed IC6501 chip MZ3001D
cap size is 1 1/8" diameter and about 2" inches high.
my problem with 6 or 7 blinks, would go away temporarily after the tv was unplugged for 24 hours.
i verified the fix by attaching a 250ufd at 250v cap in parallel with the C6503.
the problem was corrected.
you must assume the cap is leaking, which leads to the intermittent failure.
parts and shipping are a killer, so i turned to ebay.
search ebay for "Electrolytic Capacitors, 1200 uF, 250 Volt, Snap in 2X".
as the only bidder, i picked up two caps for $3.99 + $3.50 s&h.
might be wise to replace both caps, C6503 and C6590.

My tv kept getting 6 blinking lights and sometimes 4 and 7 blinking lights. So I first changed IC504 (5v reg) and the caps near it C530 and C540. It turned on a couple of times and then it stopped again within 24 hours. then I changed IC5001 AND IC 5002. still no luck. then changed C6503 AND C6590 capacitors with (1500micro f 250V because local store did not have 1200micro f 250V) they were a bit bigger and did not fit so I used 16 awg copper wire and made about 1inch legs so they would reach. I also changed C6546 becuase I saw that black goo on it and firgured it wouldn't hurt to change. still no luck. Then I changed IC6501 with a spare I had that did not work. I replaced the original ic6501 and took my spare placed it in ic8002 and the tv turned on. It still is less than 24 hours but it is on. I am going to order two new IC6501 AND IC8002 and replace both and hopefully it will last. any questions or suggestions feel free to contact me at silviotucciarone@hotmail.com. even if it is a long time from now I do not mind helping. Thanks everyone else for your help in figuring out a solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Toss the Sony set and purchase a Panasonic Plasma. I have the same set with the exact same problem. Was told by a local repair shop that the high voltage module was to blame and that it is obsolete. I called the Sony repair center and they confirmed that the module was obsolete, but they can repair it for between $500 and $700. I set up an appointment with the technician and he canceled the appointment and never followed up to schedule another appointment.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SONY TELEVISION AGAIN!

My sony kv-40xbr800 blinks 6 times, no video no audio, it wont turn on, whats going on?

The problem is on the 'A' circuit board. It is the IC504.Or, it is a low voltage drop or a short. Replace the "A" board. It is the front board on your right when you are at the rear of the set when you remove the cover. Look it up on the net. PS Don't touch the chassis while it is on...HIGH VOLTAGE !!!

Sony Wega 40" TV will not turn on, standby light blinks 6 times repeatedly

Hello,For model KV-40XBR800,

Pls check following area.

Low HV Shutdown:
On the D Board.
Check IC8004/pin 7 should be 7.4v.
Check IC8006/pin 2 should be 2.5v if lower will trigger shutdown by causing pin 1 to turn on.
Check IC8006/pin 3 reference voltage 2.2v.
IC8006/pin 1 normally at 0v. If high
turns D5007 ON which turns the latch circuit Q6532,
Q6530, and Q6527 ON and turns the AC relay RY6501 OFF.

And NOTE: 6 blinks also can be Low B+ protection.

Unregulated 7.5 v from the power supply to 5v reg IC504 on the A Board. 5v to M Board Q2314

to CPU IC2300/pin 43. If 5v missing set will shutdown with 6 blinks.

Good Luck
