Error Message Upon booting up

I'm getting the following message when I turn the laptop on: A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. There is not a disk in the laptop and when I do ctrl/alt/del it just comes right back to the black screen with the same message.

Go to bios and load defaults. if still same thing happens after reboot. Boot from OS cd, on windows etup page, choose "R" to run recovery console. Choose OS. Run CHKDSK /R.

The " disk" it is referring to is the hard drive. If there is a hard drive in the laptop, something has happened to it. The laptop is telling you it can not :find" a hard drive.

SOURCE: A disk read error occurred. the comp. said press ctrl+alt+del

The computer cannot find the operating system, the disk error message means it cannot find the hard disk, you most likely have a faulty hard disk or less likely a faulty disk controller.

You can test the hard disk by removing it and connecting it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot detect this drive as an external drive then you will know your hard drive is faulty ad you need to buy a new one and install Windows and programs etc..

SOURCE: just bought a used dell

If you bought it on the Internt, any reputable dealer will refund, repai, replace, etc... I would have sent it back if it was not recovered to like new, if I received a computer in that condition.

The other option is to Recover The Software Back To Factory Original (the same as the day it was shipped). If you bought it for the Software that came with it: BEWARE, you may loose whatever did not come with it originally. Here's How:

  1. Go to the Dell SupportPage
  2. Click <Drivers and Downloads> top of web page.
  3. Click <Change Your Product> and select the Alienware M15.
  4. Under <Applications> select the <Alienware> Click your Command Center product.
  5. Follow the installation instructions.
This Dell Support Site Also Has All The Alienware Software Listed in Numerical Order.

Thank You For Choosing FixYa~!

hi there, a disk read error doesn't sound like a CD drive to me. It sounds like a hard drive failure to me. My advice is to take out the hard disk and take it to a person that knows about hard drives.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart error

Is it a black screen right when you boot your computer? If so this could be a fatal disk error and the harddrive has crashed.

There is no easy fix other than to replace the harddrive.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
