Question about Sony STR-DE615 Receiver

1 Answer

Do you need a remote to fully power it on?

I have an STR-DE615 with no remote. When I press the Video or Audio source buttons the little orange LED cycles to the next input source but the main display stays dark. If I go the the Tuner, none of the buttons for tuning seem to have any effect. Do I need the remote to get the receiver to completely power up? (I am hoping it is in some sort of standy-by mode)

The problem was caused by a blown fuse. The secondary power supply was still functioning which powered the small LEDs and some of the switches on the front. The fuse went because a pair of the darlington driver transistors went (center channel I think) and some components on the rear speaker driver board.

How can i get the dts sound field to work. Shouldn't it automatically switch to that sound field. I have a samsung bluray dvd that hooked up to it.  The dolby pro logic and pro logic 2 indicator...

If you are playing media that has both dolby digital audio and dts audio, your player and your receiver will decode the first audio codec listed first by default unless you select it otherwise yourself. If your remote or receiver has an A.F.D. (auto format decode) button, press it until your display shows that the sound source is dolby digital or DTS, whichever sound mode it was you wanted when you started your DVD.

I have a sony str-db940, since it came back from being repaired, it reports 'not in use' when the 'sur' button is pressed and won't decode surround sound. Any ideas?

Check if you're using the digital cables like optical cable to get the audio from the receiver. If yes, please select the Input mode to AUTO by pressing the mode button repeatedly. If you're using a analog cables, please try to change the sound field and check. Press the A.F.D button repeatedly to change the sound field and try. You can also try connecting a different audio source like Cable box, dvd player and check the issue.
If the issue persists, please reset the receiver. To reset the Receiver, turn OFF the unit and press n hold the MODE + button and Power button till S.F Initialize appears. If the issue still persists, you may be having 90 days warranty after the date of repair or original warranty which ever is longer. Contact sony to resolve the issue.

Volume Control not working via remote. Works manually. Is there a motor or belt involved that may require replacement?

Please check volume button works on remote? Take any digital camera / mobile phone camera and see remote front through camera and press volume buttons, if you see IR LED blinking then remote is fine and amp has problem with volume. Let me know exact model of Sony amp to see its schematics.

Programming my DishNet remote for my Sony AV System

Hi, the manual for the vip622 (the model I have... not sure what you have) says to use the following codes for Sony Tuners / Amplifiers.

639 645 650 687 728 729 730
(located in the Appendix)

See Chapter 10 here:
http://www.dishnetwork.com/support/documents/receivers/vip622/default.aspx

for instructions on how to program the AUX setting on your remote and how to set your remote to adjust the receiver volume while controlling the Dish receiver.
