Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Error message 1700, waste ink absorber nearly full. Can I get the part to repair this myself?

Unable to advise about part availability, but..
This is a very mucky job and requires printer to be almost fully dismantled. This can be done if you are good with this sort of thing.
Then all waste ink would need to be washed out with water, pads fully dried and then rebuild printer.

My printer says that the ink absorber is full and the unit will not print, how do I clean or repair?

THERE IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM ...

I used some of the "Cartridge Flush" solution ... I squeezed some onto the waste ink absorber pads (Black & Colour), using my ink refill needle, and then I used soem paper towels to soak it up from the ink absorber pads.

NO MORE MESSAGES!

... hope it works for you as it worked for me!

Color printing

I removed the ink tanks then I removed the print head very carefully.
I rinsed the print head with the cleaner that comes with my refill
bottles, let it dry and carefully reinserted the print head. I "cleaned"
the nozzles and ran nozzle check and it worked fine.

I no longer trust this iP5000 printer for photos so I have purchased a new
Canon iP6700D which is great. I will use both printers...only using
the new one for photos only.

The main thing I have learned from my Canon printers is not to clean
the print heads as often due to that "Absorber almost full" message!
I still like the Canon for the ink capacity and separate tanks.

Your site has been so helpful! Thank you!
