Problem with the color on my TV

We have had this model TV for 5yrs now. Recently, we noticed that the color on the set is not right. The whole picture is very dark, and things that are supposed to be red show up black, just as an example. We have tried to adjust the brightness, and the picture, just as it tells you to in the owner's manual but nothing has worked. We are convinced that something is wrong in the back of the TV, but we dont know what it could be. Any advice that you could give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

i have an older model 46 inch tv and it's blurry i've tried to adjust the brightness and picture contrast but it don't help

This problem would be best left to a service technician.
You may be able to find one on this fixya website
If you are handy with repairs, The first thing I would do is find a service manual.
If you can find a model number in your user manual or on the tv somewhere, then I may be able to locate a manual.

What would effect the picture quality the color wheel or lamp?

The color wheel is your suspect.......usually whines a bit
when bad. In a quiet room, you can hear it when the TV is powered on or off. It spins at 9,000 rpm ( wears out the bearing).
The lamp will not exhibit those symptoms....

I can't get the color right. What are the perfect setting?

Hello!
Have you tried preset picture modes off TV's "picture" menu or "picture" on remote control unit. Most modern sets have "preset" modes: normal, vivid, natural, movie, sports, user, etc. Try to toggle between those modes. may be the one of those will look right for you. Make sure: "user" mode is for custo adjustments. You must choose desired settings: "picture(contrast)", "brightness", "color", "tint", "sharpness", "color temperature". May also have: DNR(dynamic noise reduction", "black level expansion", etc. I'd try presets, first and make notice of those settings. If that is, still not right to you, you may be able to tweak "user" mode the way you like it, based on info from other modes. If that won't help, you may have an issue with your TV.
good luck,
thanks,
Alex.

Color adjustment on Sony 36" Trinitron

Unfortunately, the CRT (Picture Tube) is reaching its very end. Your set is not feasible to service even if the CRT would still be available from Sony or any jobbers.

I would be seriously shopping for a new TV set!

Phillips Magnavox 60 inch Projection Tv

That model is famous for having bacterial contamination in the CRT coolant causeing halos, and dim pictures with bad overall color issues. You can look into the lens of the CRTs when the set is laying and if the coolant looks cloudy or has any growth there you will notice it right away, and changing the coolant will restore color, clarity and brightness.

Slanted picture

Your deflection yoke (a coil around the neck of the picture tube) must have gotten turned. Your can turn the picture upside down by rotating this coil. If your set is in warranty, you should return it. When this "yoke" is adjusted the color is affected too. If you try this yourself you'd void the warranty and mess up your color. Stargazer
