I found the same thing happening, I'm not convinced it is working.

I drove past a traffic cop with a laser pointed at me and nothing from the detector. yet at a petrol garage it was going bezurk at the survaillance camaras.

I am experiencing the same problem with my Cobra ESD-7000. Had it for nearly two years and yet haven picked up any alert sound whilst driving past speed cameras.

    Please assist.

I have the same problem with my ESD7000. Only difference is that mine was working perfectly until two weeks ago.It just stooped detecting laser signals.Maybe it was designed to work only during warranty period.I think I will solve the problem by getting a new detector.

When I bought mine it used to alert at various places, then started bleeping rarely and rarely and today it only bleeps when I turn it on :(

I have the same problem. The detector used to alert several signals even the ones at electric doors, it even bleeped on KA several times but now it seems that its a piece of junk. Its perfectly indicating that its powered on but without any detection at all. It mentiones on the rear label of the detector that it may accept interference from other devices that will affect its performance which probably happened from an anti radar detector device used by the cops. If it does accept interference then it can accept any signal that will malfunction the whole detecting system of the device. At the end its now just a piece of junk, a waste of money.

You should try to find out what type of radar devices your police uses.ESD7000 model does not support some devices such as Ku band radar signal, but it should detect all laser signal.Laser signal is often jammed by sun light. If your police uses radar detector detectors VG2 it will force your detector to hide from it making it invisible for detecting.Try talking to someone who has other type of detector that works in your town.It is possible that you will be forced to buy another model.

Can you show me where to get the user manual for a cobra superwide laser detector with model number r-213

Unfortunately, Cobra does not provide secondary or tertiary manuals on their website for this old model of Laser Detector.

Your best bet would be to either purchase a new Laser/Radar detector from Cobra and get the manual from that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

What does K1 mean?

The letters X, K, and Ka designate radar frequency bands used by radar based speed monitors. The letters correspond to designations given by Federal Communication Comission (FCC) frequency bands reserved for speed monitor equipment.
  • X band - 10.525 GHz
  • K band - 24.150 GHz
  • Ka band - 33.4 ... 36 GHz
The number (range is 1 ... 5) is the radar signal strength, where 1 indicates weakest signal (you are still at some distance, or maybe false alarm) while at 5 you should be able to see the white in the eye of the cop holding the radar gun.

The letter V indicates the detection of a "Detector Detector". Devices like the Cobra are illegal in some countries and police has counter-measures available to detect some radar detectors. The maker of the Cobra states, their products go unnoticed but that won't help you if highway patrol sees the thing sticking on your windshield.

The letter S indicates hazard warnings (like train crossings).

Finally, L indicates detection of a LASER based velocity detector.

Doesnt detect cops

Radar detection is not an absolute...there are several factors to consider:

-Most radar guns have an adjustable "gain"...which means that if an officer is only checking speeds to vehicles close by, he or she has the option of turning down the power. This means that your detector may not pick up the radar until you are right on top of it, if at all.

-Many police agencies are using laser or LIDAR technology for speed detection. Even if your detector is able to detect laser, the detector will not "see" it unless the police officer aims directly at your detector. The laser beam is very precise, and is only the size of a penny on the target vehicle when the officer is 1000+ yards away. Since the officer is usually targeting your license plate (it is the most reflective, and therefore the best target), the detector on your dashboard may miss it.

-Many radar guns, whether handheld or vehicle based, have an instant on feature. If you are in a "radar detector friendly state", the officers in your area probably use this option so they don't give away their location to those with detectors.

If in doubt, you may want to check your detector in the same vehicle with someone who has a known working one. If their detector goes off, and yours does not, yours is likely defective.

How do i set it up? its not detecting police

Once you turn it on it should detect radar and laser; however, not all police vehicle are equipped with moving radar and just because an officer appears to be doing radar or laser when parked, they may not be...Secondly, police radar and laser has the capability to activate their device when you are already in view because they are required to visually estimate your speed first; therefore, if you pick up their radar or laser they may have already seen you speeding and will be able to pull you over...

Radar detector codes

When any detector "detects" radar, it will produce some form of Audiable sound. If someone is speeding, they need to slow down IMMEDIATELY if they want to avoid a ticket. It doesnt really matter if the radar gun is x, k, ka, ku, etc. You will probably get a ticket if you dont slow down.

Most dectectors will have indicators lights or displays that indicate the x, k, ka, etc., radar signals are actually being detected. This can provide SOME useful information. THe letters simply designate BANDS of frequencies that are used to send the radar beams. It is similar to changing the channel on a radio - k and ka bands use HIGHER frequencies for their radar signals.

X band is the oldest radar band and it is used for police radars AND door openers at supermarkets and other locations. If you drive by a supermarket, your radar detector is likely to go off and it is almost certainly going to be X band. CHeck it out next time you drive by a supermarket with an automatic door opener.

Since the police and the radar companies like to play cat and mouse, newer radar bands have been invented that OBSOLETE the older radar detectors. When the K bands showed up in the police radar guns, the radar detector folks had to have a new product offering that would detect X band and K band. And the race continues to go on even today and now, there are LASER police speed detectors and the new "RADAR" detectors now need LASER detectors as well. If you want to know the exact frequencies of these "bands" (K, Ka, etc), let me know and I will send them to you. But they are operating in the tens of GigaHertz regions.

Here is a link to Cobra's RD product manuals page:

Cobra - Product Manuals

To the original poster, the officer could have used laser, vascar, or pacing to issue a speeding ticket. The officer also could have used a very quick burst of instant-on radar which Cobra brand radar detectors are notorious for not detecting. The officer also could have used a 35.5 Ka band radar gun. Cobra and other import brands of radar detectors usually have great difficulty detecting 35.5 Ka band radar.

Cobra 757 codes

X stands for wide band radars(easy to detect, lots of false alarms)
K/Ka stands for pulse band radars(similar signal has auto doors)
W,L stands for laser detection (very little false signals)
Ku stands for signal most used on speed cameras
V stands for radar detectors detector
Have in mind that you can only lower your speed 20-30 km/h in city zones, and up to 50 km/h on highway. This depends on car, brakes and You.

I have a cobra radar dector esd 737 and i sdoesnt pick up cops tell they are like not even a half a mile ahead of you and tips or ideas how to get it to work better

Detecting of radar or lidar emissions depends on mounting of detector. In My experience it is best to mount it just above windscreen wipers. You must check if your detector is visible from license plate level. This is important for laser detection. For other measuring devices it's only important to be visible.Higher mounting facing downwards will reduce false X and K/Ka signals. It will reduce detecing of true as well, so it is all up to you.You must know that laser detecting only covers your car.It d'ont matter if a cop is 300m or 1800m away.X band has a large emission, and it is easily detected.K/Ka band is a pulse emitting and has a lot narrow detecting point. It is effective at max 800m.In ether case speed can be reduced 20-30 km/h in city, and 30-50 km/h on highway.
