I actually called the 800 sandisk number and the guy was helpful (after some annoying personal questions).
Unplug from your computer
Turn off the device.
Push the button down to be in the "Hold" position
Press down on the "center" button (inside the circle)
While still pressing on the center, plug in the device.
Now you should be able to see the device under "My Computer"
Right click on it and FORMAT --YOU WILL LOSE ANYTHING THAT WAS ON IT! But you will be able to use it again. I was assuming all my stuff was gone, it was just copies from my computer anyway.

This worked for me and now I just have put my music back on it.

Hope this helps everyone else! And don't hook it up to a MAC!! Even just to charge it!

Reset the device first by holding in the power button for 15 seconds or longer.

If this fails, download the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool from:

My Sandisk Sansa was stuck in the Goodbye position. Could not do a thing to restart. Pressed and held the Power Button for awhile and it fixed it.
Thank goodness.

What I was told to do when my Sansa clip froze was this: slide the Power Button up and hold it for approximately 15 seconds. This is like a power down of the device. Once you
perform the reset, the adjustments you made during the last operation will be gone.

Not sure if it'll help, but it's worth a try.

My remedy for this situation is safely unhook your sansa clip first, using "safely remove hardware". unplug the thing, turn it off by sliding up the power and hold it for 5 second till the "goodbye" text appear, hook it back to the PC, safely remove it, and unplug it again. It works everytime for me.

Stucked at Refresh database

When the Sansa reads "refreshing database," what it is doing is going through all the songs you've loaded on to it, pulling out the "tag" information (Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre) so it can add this information to its own database which it uses to display the songs to you in its menus.

If it gets stuck during this process, usually it's because of a corrupt song file, or a song file in a format it doesn't understand.

Note that the e280 is only able to play MP3 and WMA audio formats. If you've loaded a different type of audio file onto your Sansa, you'll need to remove them.

If the songs you've recently loaded have all been MP3 and/or WMA, you may have loaded a corrupted file onto your Sansa. Try removing the songs you recently added, and see if the problem goes away.

Some songs or files with extension device can't read, so it takes so long/infinity to refresh. Plug the device to pc, format it.
Good luck

How do you refresh database?

This just means that the player is refreshing the songs on the list, it does not mean that you have to do anything.

Sansa Scandisk e205 refresh Database failed help plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay, heres wut u can try. try to switch the USB mode from MTP to MSC (in settings, go to USB Mode and switch from MTP to MSC.) And then in the MSC mode connect it to the PC. I dunno bout ur sansa, but my did a Database Reboot, and the computor could see the player. Then u can switch it back to the MTP mode (czu its much mroe comfortable). Although i think the 0.5 gigs are lost forever (i lost 1.5 gigs,)atleast now u can dwonlaod songs on ur player.
