LONG ANSWER:-with clarification request--
I need to know which Sharp Notevision XR-1S you have, a google search returned two devices of the same model number, one being a very expensive DLP and the other being fairly affordable. The cheaper of the two is about the price of an iPod where the DLP version is the price of a Laptop.
It would seem you cant connect your "Sky Magic Eye" device directly to the projector as that would require the projector to have what's called an 'RF Demodulator' which it doesn't. That is why someone told you to get the DVD recorder, as it contains a tuner.
You got the picture from the magic eye, according to your question, so your on the right track.
What I need to know to completely answer your question is what is the connection from your dvd recorder to the projector. I am going to guess that you have not hooked up the audio output f the recorder to the audio input of the projector. SKY is only available in the UK and not the USA where I live and we do not have anything as wonderfully easy as SCART connectors, I wish we did, my life would be easier. When you don't use SCART you need to run a SECOND line for audio. The audio line is typically two RCA connectors on either end of a cable 1 meter to 10 meters in length. The connectors are white and red in color. If the Amazon.com link didnt work just search for "rca cable" and get the cheapest one that is the correct length.
CHEERS.
