Scanner Locked Error

I have opened the cover and the scanner lock slide switch is stuck in in the unlocked mode and will not move to lock so I can cycle it. Has anyone seen this before.

We are suddenly having the same problem, never having touched the scanner lock. Cannot fix it despite following instructions.

My scanner is locked too, found an orange switch but it seems to be stuck. How can I get this working again?

We keep getting a message "Scanner Error" "Scanner Not Responding" when we try to turn on the copier. Our air conditioning was out for two days and we were wondering if the humidity may have caused a problem. The air conditioning has been back on for the last 5 days but the scanner still won't work. We've followed the instructions and tried to turn the machine off and then back on with no success. Any Suggestions?

Scanner Lock -- a possible quicker fix

Instead of removing the entire glass plate, just remove the narrow glass strip to the far left. To do this, open the scanner top revealing the glass, and remove the philips screw centered on the left edge. With a thin flat-head screwdriver or even a good set of fingernails, you can then pry out the thin U-shaped plastic piece holding the glass strip in place.

When you remove the glass strip, you now have (narrow but sufficient) access to the scanner pulley and belt. Pull the spring-loaded pulley back towards your right to get some slack on the belt, then remove the belt from the pulley.

This frees up the scanner head, which you can now slide manually (by pulling gently on one end of the belt and giving slack on the other) to a center position well away from the scanner lock. When I first tried, I didn't move the scanner head far enough -- to the middle or beyond seems sufficient.

Push the scan lock to the full lock and then the full unlock position, to make sure it is now free.

Using fingers, screwdriver, and/or pliers, re-seat the belt on the pulley, once again using the freedom to move the spring-loaded pulley a bit to the right.

Replace the glass strip, plastic cover, and screw.

Power on the scanner. The error message should now be gone, and the scanner head should slide back to its resting position on startup (unless something is caught underneath, which was apparently the case for some who had this problem but was not the case for me). If the first power cycle doesn't do the trick, another power cycle might be helpful.

This approach eliminates the need to remove the scanner lid, control panel, and scanner glass.

I was having those scanner locks every week until I had the idea to lube the metal shaft on which the scanner head moves. I used a silicone spray and my 9120 is now back to life.

Had that problem. The warranty ran out so I decided to open the damn thing up and unplug the keypad. This was enough to reset the all-in-one and fixed the problem.

It says it's locked; to click ok when unlocked, But it's not locked. How to reconcile?

The physical lock may be engaged on the scanner.

Turn the scanner upside down and look for a button that slides. There should be a locked padlock symbol to one side and an unlocked padlock to the other side. Make sure the switch is set to the unlocked padlock side.

When you are not using the scanner or if you are moving it, it is a good idea to engage the lock switch so that the mechanism inside is not jolted out of alignment if it is bumped by accident.

Brother 750e making juddering sound and switching into satety mode, help!!

satety? Do you mean safety? This sounds like the scanner is in a locked mode or hung up. Usually on any all in one printer there is a way to lock the scanner when moving, look under where the paper comes out for a small knob or switch with a lock/unlock picture and check to see if it accidentally has been bumped to the locked position. If the scanner can't move then it will give an error so nothing is damaged. Hope this helps.

How do you release the scanner lock switch on the MP990

Open the document cover of the scanner decision, you should be able to slide the release lock switch towards the hinge side of the document cover. There is a padlock symbol on each side of the switch; the side closer to the hinge is an unlocked padlock. The other side has a locked padlock symbol. If the all-in-one was on, turn it off and wait 5 seconds before turning it back on after unlocking the unit.

If the switch is in the unlocked position and turning the printer off and then on again doesn't resolve the error, the unit needs service. Contact Canon if it is under warranty. (Otherwise, decide if the printer is worth the service call.)

I hope this helps.

I am having a problem with my printer. When I turn it on the copy light is on and the feed switch light and the alarm light and it says in the screen release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off...

Issue: ERROR LCD: Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution: Unlock the scanner lock switch

The scanner must be unlocked before turning the unit on.

Turn off the power.

Lift the document cover.

The scanner lock switch is on the left hand side of the underside of the document cover.

Slide the scanner lock switch to the release mark (an open padlock icon).

Lock the switch before transporting.

Close the document cover.

Turn the machine on.

If machine still is not working repeat the power off / on cycle waiting 5 seconds in between.

I have seversal problems -- The Scanner Lock is on and I can't figure out how to turn it off. Now I can't copy or fax. The machine makes a grinding noise when I turn it on. I think this started after...

The lock is a slide switch next to the large glass when you open the top cover, when it is locked the scanner can't move and makes a grinding noise. It's easy to bump into the locked position and easy to unlock.

Scanner locked?

On some models there is a transport latch to lock the scanner. Look under the scanner (where the copy comes out) and you will see a green slide. Look down thgrough the scanner glass and you will see a lock/unlock symbol.

Samsung CLX3160FN: scanner stays locked

Hi Stijntje,

The scanner lock is actually a physical locking mechinism. It is not a control panel option.
the scanner is locked in a safe position before they ship the unit to prevent damage to the scanner.

I believe that this sliding latch can be located ( while looking straight at the unit ) on the under side of the scanner, above the area where the paper comes out, more to the left hand side.

locate the latch and slide it from the locked position to the unlock position.

Press stop/clear button to clear the error and try again.

Good luck,

Error on printer

There is a safety lock on the scanner that may be in the locked position. Turn the unit off and locate the green lock lever/switch under the scanner where the paper comes out. It will be labeled with a icon (picture) of a lock (unlocked and locked). Move it to the unlocked and locked position multiple times, ending up in the unlocked position. It may be stuck so moving it back and forth may release it. Turn it back on and try it.

Lexmark X83 "Unlock Scanner" error

I had the same problem and the solution is this: There is a red lever switch by the power chord on the scanner/printer. Above this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "locked" position and at the bottom this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "opened (unlock)" position. The lever on the red switch should point to the "opened" lock symbol (unlock). It the switch lever is pointing to the "locked" position of the lock symbol, flip it to the "opened" position and recycle power on the scanner by removing the power chord for a 30 seconds. If the lever is pointing to the "unlock" lock symbol, flip it to the "locked" position and then back to the "unlocked" position and recycle power. Good luck!
