Try a power cycle. unplug the power from the back of your modem. unplug the power from your router. shut down the computer. Plug the modem in frist wait until lights are normal. Check your cables make sure the modem is plugged into the wan port. then power on your router. wait until lights are normal plug in your laptop with a cat5 cable. start up the laptop see if your able to access the internet with the cable plugged in.

If so great your on line. open ie and goto your router ip address which i think is 192.168.0.1. its in your manual anyway. goto the wireless tab and make sure your wireless is enabled in the dlink router.

If your internet is not working then you need to setup your pppoe connection if your on dsl. and then do the wireless set up. default is usualy the ssid. [

I can't connect to the internet wirelessly. i don't think my linksys router is working

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

My DI 524 keeps dropping out. I have reset the router several times and reconfigured it.

there are a large number of reasons for wireless dropout on routers but in my experience they are almost always a sign of failure or imminent failure.

This model is quite old but should still be serviceable.

If it not the wireless side but your wired side then i would be looking at what you have connected to it and how those computers are set up

My own preference is to go to each computer and make sure it has its own IP etc and that the cable are not directly crossing any power cords etc (or at least as few as possible)

If it is just say one particular computer and if it is a wireless connection then maybe move the router either higher or to a more central location in the house.

Location of wireless routers is and can be a crucial factor in getting wireless to work around a house.

The setting on the router itself may also be an issue and to check those you may want to get a tech savvy friend or local tech into check it out for you.

There is always the option on a newer router too as they have developed quite a bit since that model and tend to offer much better security and better connectivity.

hello!

You cant use a usb cable to configure the router one main reason is that the router do not have a usb port. Since you do not have a ethernet cable, there is another way to configure the router by setting it up wirelessly. You need to have a wireless adapter installed on your computer to communicate with the router wirelessly. Although this is not very advisable because you might experience frequent disconnection everytime you save the settings on the router. i suggest to configure the router using an ethetnet cable instead.

What wireless adapter is installed on the vista computer and how far is the wireless computer from the router? On your vista computer you may change the order of your wireless network and make sure the Wireless Network Name of your Belkin router is on its top. You may also try changing the channel on the router and its security settings from WPA to WEP if it may help in the synchronization process.

Or call the toll-free Supportrix Tech Support at 1-877-787-8749 and give "support call" as promo code for one free technical support call.
