This could possibly be caused by a failing power supply or cpu heat sink,Also, check to be sure memory boards are seated properly.

Tip

Tips to clean and speed up your computer.

Hello,

If you wish to speed up your computer or just give it a good cleaning, you have come to the right place! Follow the tips below and your computer should perform better.

CCleaner is a program I have used for years, and it is an amazing tool. It offers the ability for you to clean out old temporary files, browser cookies, remove unwanted programs, fix registry errors, disable start up programs and even manage system restore points.

Click here to download the program

-Install and open up CCleaner. On the left, you will notice 4 options. The first(top option) is cleaner. We will make sure we are on this tab and click the "analyze" button near the bottom middle. Let the program analyze and once it is done click the "run cleaner option"

*Editing registry information can potentially be dangerous and I always advise to backup the registry before deleting anything from it*

When you install and remove programs, you can leave behind junk that over time can cause problems for your computer. We will clean up the registry now.

-Next, we will run the Registry analysis to see if anything can be fixed. Click on the registry tab on the left of CCleaner and then click the "Scan for issues" button. Once this is done, go ahead and click the "Fix selected Issues" button.

Over time, your computer can accumulate many programs that will start up when windows reboots causing the reboot process to be extremely slow. Some of these programs are non essential and can be disabled from start up. The next step we will disable any unwanted start up programs.

*Disabling essential programs from start up may cause computer issues. Only disable programs that are not needed to be running when the computer starts up. Some examples are Itunes, Windows Media Player, Adobe update*

-Click on the "tools" option on the left of CCleaner. Then click on the startup tab. Expand the CCleaner window to maximize so you get a good view. You do this by clicking the box icon at the top right of CCleaner. In the middle window, CCleaner will list all programs that will start when your computer is turned on. You can go through each program and disable any that you see fit. I gave some examples above of programs you can disable. This can increase your start up time!

Now we can close CCleaner.

-In this step we will run the built in Windows disk cleaner and disk defragmenter to finish our clean up job. In windows 7 you can access these tools by going to Start and in the search box type Disk. The two top options should be Disk Cleaner and Disk Defrag.

Click on Disk cleanup and a program will run, and calculate files to be deleted and how much space you can save. CCleaner will have already cleaned up much of this junk but go ahead and select the options you wish to remove and click the OK button.

Next, run the Disk defrag tool. This tool will show you if your disk is badly fragmented and if so, run the program. It is best to do this overnight while you are sleeping as it can take up computer resources.

Other Tips
A new tool I have started to use is TuneUp Utilities. The 2011 version is very good and is easy to use. You can download it by clicking here. You can use it to basically do anything from disabling start up programs, defragging your hard drive, changing Windows settings and even changing your Windows Login screen. It will guide you through optimizing your computer.

Okay, your computer should be all clean and run a bit faster now. I hope you enjoyed this Tip!

Regards,
G33k

When turning on my computer it just beeps intermintenly.

uH-oh, power restarts like that can damage power supplys, motherboards, and hard drives----even if you are connected to a surge protector. You can try the following, then begin to check the power supply, then the hard drive and video card seperately....
These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it is definitely a hardware problem.---Most likely the power supply!!
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP A COPY NEAR YOUR SYSTEM FOR FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS SERIES OF STEPS CAN FIX MANY PROBLEMS
Good luck.
James.

I have a dell computer and its running slow

Disk Clean up is a small percentage of what you need to do. As you go by installing and uninstalling programs a lot of debris of programs keeps the Windows Registry bloating more and more. And each time you give a command it has to read the registry which takes time. And you feel the computer is slowing down.
Solution:-
Go to www.ccleaner.com and download CCleaner free and install it. Run it and clean up the registry and all others extra baggage that slows the computer down. And wach your PC/laptop gallop after that.

Slow start with home edition of xp

The HP Pavilion a350n Desktop PC, came out in late 2003.

This suggests to me, that you may have had the computer a long time.

You need to clean the harddrive of,
A) Unnecessary files,
B) Fragmented files,
C) Unused programs, and applications,
D) Plus frequently defragment the harddrive.

A, and B.
The best method is to use a Registry Cleaner. I recommend a Free one.

Why?
A) It is Free.
B) It works as well, or better than the paid fore versions.

CCleaner.

This is Wikipedia, and the article on Ccleaner,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ccleaner

The home page for Ccleaner is on the upper right, underneath the illustration.

Should you wish to download, install, and use this free program, come back with a comment, and I'll walk you through using it.
After you know how you'll find out it's really easy.

Every time you go to a website, you pick up cookies. These are harmless, but after a given time they take up space on your harddrive.

Whenever your harddrive is more than 50 percent full, your computer starts to slow down. You really start noticing it, when your harddrive is more than 70 percent full.

30 percent Free Space.

With Windows running, Left-click on Start, then Left-click on My Computer.
Look at Local Disk (C:)

This is your harddrive.
What percentage of Free Space do you have?

Don't see this? It could be the type of View you are using.
Go to the top header. Look for the icon that looks like a rectangle with 6 colored squares in it, and has a black triangle pointing down.
(To the right of the yellow Folders icon)

Click on the Black triangle. It's a Down Arrow. There will be a drop down list. Left-click on - Details

Now what percentage of Free Space do you have?

Whenever you have a program, or application that you have deleted, there will be file fragments left behind. These take up space on the harddrive.

When your harddrive has about 5 to 10 percent left of Free Space, your computer will crawl like a Snail.
You can't defragment your harddrive if you do not have enough Free Space left on your harddrive.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.

After the Add/Remove Programs list has populated, look for programs, or applications you may have installed, and rarely, If ever use anymore.

Get rid of the one's you don't need.
DO NOT Remove any Windows programs!

Unused programs/applications take up harddrive free space.

After you have removed all programs/applications that are unused, run Ccleaner.
Clean the Windows registry.

D) After you have enough Fee Space on the harddrive, you can run defragment.

(Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Rearrange Items on Your Computer to Make Programs Run Faster.

If you do not see Performance and Maintenance, you are in the Classic view.
If you go up to the top left corner, you will see the Control Panel heading, and underneath it -
'Switch to Category View'

Left-click on it. If you desire the Classic View again, you can always switch back)

You may get a comment about using your restoration CD disk, to restore your computer.

1) IF, you still have the Restoration CD disk, you have my respect! Very few of us still have this disk after 3 years, much less almost 7.

2) BE AWARE, that you will restore the computer back to the way it was, when it came from the factory.

Back to Day 1.

FROM THE FACTORY

This means any Programs, or Applications you have installed, or downloaded, will be GONE!

This means any personal documents you have will be GONE!

My Photos, My Videos, My Music, and any saved documents, or documents you have made. (My Documents folder)

GONE!

Just wanted you to be aware of that.

Back up your personal documents to CD, or DVD disks. (DVD-R, or RW for videos)

You need the program, or application CD disks, to put them back on the computer.
You cannot copy them to a disk.

I await your questions.

hi im wesley. you might have a virus of some sorts or try defragmenting your pc it will also speed it up as this sometimes happens when you have alot of things on your pc and when you delete stuff and put files on all the time it slows down alot and can hang because the files are mixed up on the hard drive. to defragment go to start-all programs-accesories-system tools-defragment then say analyze then defragment.
