Sounds to me like you busted a main drive belt not making any noise from the engine ? just stopped moving if this is correct then you probably looking @ around 45-50 dollars for new belt advanced auto has alot of belts for riding mowers they can assist you with replacing the correct size belt for you mtd.also they can be inexpensive as well on the price of the belts.

I have a mtd yard man 22inch / mulcher . My question is how do I get the mower to start mulching ?

For mowers like yours, there are straight cut discharge blades (for bagging the grass) and there are more expensive upswept mulching blades. Any holes in the sides of the deck must be covered to mulch as the blade keeps the grass up in the air under the deck, repeatedly cutting it...over and over..till it falls on the ground. So use a solid deck with the upswept type blade.

Mower blades belt keeps breaking

Did you get a manufacturers belt? sometimes belts that look the same don't work. My belts kept breaking because the pulleys were dirty with grit, dirt, and grass. Hope this helps.
