Use a utility like Nirsoft BlueScreenView to find the stop code from the crash dump. This may also allow you to identify the driver causing the issue.

If your USB ports are malfunctioning, this may indicate a hardware issue with either the ports, motherboard, or PSU. Check for obstructions, broken connectors or other such problems.

Hi there, You don't need an installation disk for a DVD/CD writer, but you may need some software to burn DVDs. IRQL is usually the following:
bad ram memory
bad software driver for example: video driver

run www.memtest86.com
if it's bad ram replace it
if its a driver update your video drivers

If you are getting the "irql_not_less_or_equal" BSOD after the install of the drivers then if is possible that you did not get a clean install of the drivers and/or there is something wrong with the device. To let me better see what is going on I need the stop code. The link below will help you get that info from the BSOD.

Note Window XP 64bit was a transition operating system to help manufactures to write 64bit drivers and software for the 64bit operating systems. However there is alot of products out there that eventhough they have Windows 7/Vista 64bit support they do not have XP 64bit support.

I had the same issue with a liteon DVD drive I had. It worked fine and then one day it couldn't write to a DVD if I paid it to. I troubleshooted it for a few days, installed all the latest updates and patches and still nothing. From what I could tell, it baiscally died. So fortunately Liteons are relatively cheap so I just went out and got another LiteOn and it worked just fine. I would consider purchasing a new Drive.

Normally this indicates some kind of resource conflict between device. Could be you just updated drivers for a device, or a new device was installed/used.
From the device manager you should be able to find out which devices have a resource conflict.
Other details on the driver irql not less or equal error might help you as well.

irql not less or equal sounds like a graphics driver problem. All you needed to do was boot up in safe mode and remove the gfx driver and the OS would have rebooted with the default driver and then you could have reinstalled it

No but it sounds like your burner is DOA. Take it back and exchange it.

Open The cabinet of the CPU and check the IDE Channel
BUS- cable if that is plugged properly.Also check if the Power plug is properly inserted to your DVD Rom,

If both are checked properly, get the lense of the DVD checked in service center. maximum of the CD/DVD problem arises due to damage in the lense. Anyways, The cost of the lense comes to be almost equal to the DVD ROM price  :)
