Question about Refrigerators

LG Refrigerator/Freezer Model GR-762DEQF

I think the problem is with the freezer fan.

There is a loud grinding noise coming from what seems like the freezer area. When I open the freezer door the fan,if it is that, comes to a halt slowly and the noise is gone.

I openend the rear bottom panel and found a fan there which I gave a bit of a clean-up. Is there another fan on top for the freezer as the noise persists. How do I get to this fan, again , if it is a fan. The rear panel from the top 3/4 way down is sealed with no screws to unscrew.

Any idea where that fan is located and how to access it. I could only find one at the bottom of the refrigerator.

Same problem on the LG Refrigerator.

A loud, grinding noise. It stops when I open the door and turns starts again if I pretend to close the door (push the light lever).

Is this something that is easy to fix or do I need to get a serviceman?

    Thanks.

You will need to replace the fan the reason it stops it the door switch needs to be closed for the fan to operate. with the door open press the switch and see if that is in fact where the noise is coming from if so it sounds like the bearings are going out

Do you think it is the fan in the freezer or could it be the water valve when the icemaker is filling?

Not freezing

This unit has issues with the evap fan freezing up. If you heard a grinding noise coming from freezer, fan froze up. Unplug unit, open freezer door and if you have a box fan, point it into freezer for a couple hours. Be sure to unplug fridge

I have a bottom freezer kenmore refrigerator model 596.72253200 and its making a grinding sound coming from the freezer. i found out that when the light its off on the freezer its when the noise starts

The noise your hearing is the evaporator fan. This is a sign of an automatig defrosting problem. Here is what you can do to prove that it is NOT an evaporator problem and most likely an automatic defrosting problem:

(MANUAL DEFROST)

1 Empty the freezer contents
2. Unplug the refrigerator
3. Place a fan blowing into the freezer section for about 2 hours.
(This will make a dripping water mess so be ready with the rags and the mop.)
4. After 2 hours wipe up the last bit of water mess.
5. Plug in the Freezer
6. Load freezer contents.
7. Listen for grinding noise.

My bet is the grinding noise is gone. However if you still hear it the evaporator fan motor has bad bearings in it.

The evaporator fan motor can be found here: (Item 18)
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-59672253200/0582/0161000/M0210209/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

If the noise is gone keep an eye on the unit after 2 days because if there is an automatic defrosting problem the noise WILL repeat.

The defrost control is item 13 this link: (Backordered)http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-59672253200/0582/0161000/M0210209/00003?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

Part number is: 12566102

I did find it in stock here:
http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/part-detail.php?affiliate_id=seabreeze&item=12566102&brand=WPL

There can be other reasons for not defrosting properly but the control is the most common failure.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My LG ice maker fan is making a really loud noise right after the water stops going in

Hello, Self-defrosting refrigerators use a circulating fan to move air through the freezer and refrigerator compartment. This fan runs when ever the unit is cooling. The fan is located in the freezer, as follows:
  • If the freezer is on top, the fan is on the back wall, near the top or bottom, in the center of the freezer.
  • If the freezer is on the bottom, the fan is on the back wall, near the top of the freezer.
  • If the freezer is on the left, the fan is on the back wall, half way up or near the top.
Overtime the fan may become noisy, usually making a chirping or squealing sound, though it may make a loud groaning noise instead.
To find out if the fan is causing the noise, just open the freezer door and push in any fan/light switches, if the noise is louder when the door is open, the evaporator fan motor is the cause. You can lubricate or repair this motor. You must replace it.
There are three components on the outside back of the refrigerator that may become noisy: the compressor, the condenser fan motor(if self-defrosting), or the defrost timer (if self-defrosting).
Thanks

The refrigerator make noise. It seem to be from the motor. It is only 1 year old.

I think that sound come of the fan in the freezer. This sound is intermittant. It's possible that problem is cause by a defect bearing?

LG refrigerator makes loud noise and then stops running.

You are seriously frozen up. Defrost the unit completely. Then, be aware that 'window shopping', leaving uncovered liquids in the box and poor door sealing (too heavy a load on the door ... too much on shelves) can cause condensation. Defrost with hot air or leave unplugged and open for about 2 days. You'll see alot of water come out.
