Question about 3Com Office Connect DSL Router with Free PC Card (3p002834-1)

1 Answer

Problem connecting I have moved changed ISP from NTL to Virgin. They sent me a model (Speedtocuh), which I installed and works well. However, I have two PCs that need to be connected to the Internet, so I have tried to reconnect my ECom ruoter, which was working before ok, and now i cant go any further than the "Admin" page (username and password that the computer/software asks to set the router up again). It just hangs in there and doesnt go to the following windows that is shown in manual to complete the installation of the router. I have check the ping (192.168.1.1.) and it says ok (Host found), but not sure what the problem is :-( When I reconect speedtouch ( I disable it to try to connect the eCOM), it works ok!. Any clues???? Thanks! Maria

The location of the manual online (and full details of the Router) is here:

    http://adslcd.ipex.cz/manuals/845G/Quick...

I'm stuck in page 11. That window appear (the confured home page), but when I click on "EZ Setup" nothing happens (doesnt take me to the wizard) :-(

    Any clues?

I think the easiest thing would be to reset the router to default. There should be a reset hole on the back of router. This sets SSID to router manufacture name and ID and Password are set to "admin". Then it should just automaticly connect. You can then change SSID, ID and Passwoord. Connect to the internet with a browser and then reconnect the cables from modem to router to computer. Hopefully this will help or solve. Thanks..!!

If you're using an ADSL connection the details you need are below.

Settings for an ADSL connection through a telephone line.

Open a web browser and log onto your router.

Find Internet Wan > Connection Type.

Set the Router to use PPPoA, type in your User Name and Password in the spaces provided. If you do not have a Service Name or do not know it, leave the Service Name field blank. After you have typed in your information, click "Apply Changes". After you apply the changes, the Internet Status indicator will read "Connected" if your Router is set up properly.

WAN > Connection Type PPPoA
User Name > firstname.name@adsl.virgin.net (or virgin.com or whatever)
Password > *******
Retype Password > *******
VPI/VCI > 0 / 38
Encapsulation > VC MUX
MTU > Leave as Default

Find Internet Wan > DNS.
Select Automatic from ISP
(Virginmedia DNS servers are Primary: 194.168.4.100 Secondary: 194.168.8.100)

Find Lan Setup > Lan Settings
Ensure DHCP Server is set to On

If the details entered are correct the router will show connected and the internet lamp will be green.

Do the configuration on a wired connection.

I have this router Belkin G Router Model :

belkin routers are compatible with all ISPs.... all that it requires is an ethernet cable that should come from ISP, either directly or through modem... so if your virgin connection gives you an ethernet port in their modem, you can configure the belkin router accordingly...

One PC will not connect to Router and therefore Internet.

Sounds to me like the problem is related to the PC hardware. Please check the following in your PC:

- Network card is properly working
- Network cable connecting to the PC is properly working

Been given 1 but its virgin but my isp is with talktalk, will it work?

Virgin is a cable provider. They give you a cable modem in to which you can plug the router using a network (RJ45) connection. This router is an ADSL modem router.

In other words, it could NOT have been used on Virgin, but it should work with Talk Talk as it is a standard ADSL connection.

Reset the Router back to factory default and enter your details.

Linksys WRT54GR-UK Connection Problems

Try changing the default ip address of the router to 192.168.2.1. Sometimes the ISP's modem is set at 192.168.1.1 which will conflict with a router using the same IP.

Is your physical connection right???
the WAN port should be connected to your modem, and the LAN1 should be connected to your pc.....

if right, but still doesn't connect....
check if the lights of your router is working
the POWER should have a solid light,
the STATUS, WAN, LAN 0r WLAN should be blinking...

if right, but still doesn't connect....
What kind of connection do you have?
is your modem automatically detects your password...?
or you manually type your password to connect to the internet...?
